Scouts and the FAQ

The FAQ changes the wording for swapping a Bolt Pistol for Plasma Pistol or Power Weapon into "May take", so this means in addition to the weapons already equipped I can take a Power Weapon?

I ask because I want a couple of Sniper units in Apocalypse but I want them to be able to hold their ground, so by swapping the Close Combat Weapon I gain a Sniper Rifle and keep a Bolt Pistol, then I can take a Power Weapon.

Do you think this is fair game or an abuse of the rules?

it does seem kind of weird but that is what it says.

personally i am going to try and models a guy in some cool stance with a PP and BP, and another with a CCW and PW. I might put them on the table from time to time but they would be mostly just for looks.

I hadn't noticed that before. So you could do something like:

2 Wolf Scouts (Sniper Rifle, Power Weapon, Bolt Pistol)

Wolf Scout (Missile Launcher, Bolter)

X Wolf Scouts (Sniper Rifle, Bolter)

That's pretty cool.

So for WYSIWYG how would this need to be modeled?

Sheaved weapon over the models back, that is how I model scouts with a bolt pistol, Powerweapon and Meltabombs.

Long Power-weapon Bayonette on the sniper rifle with a holstered Bolt Pistol.

Bolter-mounted missile launcher, or missile-launcher-mounted Bolter.

Dual wielding Bolter and Sniper Rifle.

We're Space Wolves. We can pull off this sort of awesome.

I would try to give them both rifles and bolters on the models, although I'm not sure about the best way to do that. Of course, some units like grey hunters don't have to have all of their equipment depicted on the model (they can just have bolters most of the time), so you could claim that it should work the same for sniper rifle/bolter scouts, but since both the rifle and the bolter are upgrades and not standard equipment, I would strongly suggest trying to model both of them. Sniper scouts with bolters slung across their backs would be awesome-looking, but I haven't modeled slings like that before, so I'm not sure how you would do it.

-Sniper on strap with bolt pistol and power weapon or sniper with holstered BP and sheathed PW

-Bolter on strap missile launcher in hand

-Bolter/sniper strapped on, other weapon in hand

So let me get this straight I can add Sniper Rifles to my 5 man scout squad for X points but they still get the bonus attack for having 2 CC weapons? Even if they have PW's?

Only the ones who take Power Weapons or Plasma Pistols, because they have Bolt Pistol and close combat weapon standard, one of which you swap for the Sniper Rifle, then according to the FAQ you take a Power Weapon or Plasma Pistol, meaning you can have either Sniper Rifle, Bolt Pistol and Power Weapon/Plasma Pistol or Sniper Rifle, Close Combat Weapon and Power Weapon/Plasma Pistol.

It makes the pack more durable in an assault

Ok so my set up:

Scout, BP, CCW- 3 attacks on charge

Scout, BP, CCW- 3 attacks on charge

Scout, PW, Sniper Rifle, CCW- 3 attacks on charge?

Scout,PW, Sniper Rifle, CCW- 3 attacks on charge?

Scout, Melta Gun, CCW- 2 attacks on charge

Your answer kind of threw me off.

It's handy because I tend to find about eight points left over after investing in other upgrades, now I can spend six points on giving my Scouts a little more flexibility in game.

Though the main boon is for my deliberate sniper packs in my Heresy army, being able to hold should someone get too close
