Callidus vs. Deamons

I have a 'Ard Boyz tourny coming up soon and I was thinking about using a Callidus assassin in my list. The main reason why I'm taking her is because her "Deploys Anywhere" rule and the C'tan sword.

Though my only question is how useful would she be versus say "Fateweaver" from the codex: deamons?

Now the thing about callidus assasins are that due to the new pile in rules they suck. They totally epic fail in However "a word in your ear" can be nicce for a tank without a dozer blade/siege shield or bikes and jump pack troops (dangerous terrain). You could stick some Long Fangs behind a building, all good stuff.

She gets to pick her target with her come in anywhere rule so just make sure you stick her by somthing low LD if you can (maximise the neural shredder) and don't charge her into anything half decent in assault. The furthest I'd go would be broadside battlesuits :P or maybe some horrors....

There are much better thing you can do with that 120 points especially if you are using the black templars dex.

Well you're going to have at least one Inquisitor with Mystics anyway...

And if it's 'Ard Boyz, you might want to make every Daemon Player just pack up thier army by taking a few 'Sanctuarys' as well.

Care to expand on the "Sanctuary" tactic? This is the first time I've heard of it being used before.

And yes I do have a Inquisitor Lord with 2 mystics and gun servitor in a rhino putt'ing around the field.

Sanctuary, the final word in demons doing nothing to your force. Creates a 3' bubble around the psyker of "Deamons treat this as impasible terrain and cannot draw line of sight through it. A good trick with it is to make a wall of sanctuary and have your heavy weapons stand behind it, basicly resulting in psycannons that can't be targeted by the demons they are blasting. Good fun for you.

Nasty for the daemon player though.

Oh wow that is nasty. :)

Sadly I'm still going to have to go with Inquisitor Lord with the psy hood and the mystics mounted in a rhino.

It would be nice if the Inquisitor could take that power and still be able to tag along in my army.

Heres question now that I think of it. If you are mounted in a vehical and you cast "Sanctuary" do you measure from the hull of the vehical or the fire point?

The transport I do believe. Enjoy your landraider. Or Chimera or whatever.

Hull.

There are exacly two (IIRC) powers that can get thorugh Sanctuary in the Daemon arsenal. Both don't require LoS. Neither can damage Vehicles, so if you use Sanctuary Psychers in transports, there's nothing the Daemon Player can do.

As for the Cally, AWIYE is obviously wasted on Daemons, as none of them deploy.

Do you want an 'all comers' list, or specifically anti Daemon?

so just make sure you stick her by somthing low LD if you can

IIRC there's nothing under Ld9 in the Dameon Dex (or nothing commonly used...). Another blow to the Cally.

The problem with a Callidus on Fateweaver is she hits on 3's but wounds on 5's. That means she is going to have problems breaking him down before the rest of the Daemon army finishes her off. A Callidus is really there for AWIYE which can be awesome and to cherry pick small squads off objectives or from the backfield. I played her at a tournament a month ago and she did the following...

Immobilized and Ork Trukk with AWIYE, DS down to kill the Mek repairing it and Immobilized another Trukk with her Flamer (then died).

Killed a 5 man 1k Sons Unit before being BoC'ed by Ahriman.

Immobilize a LR, then took out a 5 man tactical on his objective before being mowed down by Bolters.

At the end of the day I was glad I played her, but the 120 points to field her was still a bit steep. I think she really needs to be costed at around 85 points for Fifth Edition. If you really need to add non-linear elements to your army then go for it, but otherwise she is going to sit on my dresser until a new WH codex comes out.

I think she, like all the assassins, could really benefit from poison. Even if they gave her poison 4+ that means she could deal with basicly anything the nees to assasinate.
