Space Wolf: The Movie

Ok, since I got you reeled in with the title, lets just chat a bit about how nice it would be if it happened.

In my mind, I keep seeing production boards with a lone figure clad in a massive animal pelt in a driving blizzard as the opening scene; an aspirant on his test of trials. Something in the blizzard is watching him, hunting him, and then you have the flashback to him as a tribal member to start the movie. His life, his tribe, his planet (Fenris), and ultimately his battle prowess that had him chosen to become a aspirant by a wolf priest. I wouldn't want it to be the Ragnar series, but a lot of it could be based on it since it is the same process for all aspirants so to speak.

On a side note, I very rarely like anime/manga. I mean I only really like the gory, historical stuff like Samurai Champloo or Lone Wolf and Cub. But I could totally see a Space Wolf anime show done starting the same way as a movie and going through his sagas. It wold have to be gritty and gory to truly hook me in, but I can totally see it being done good if the right people were in charge.

I could get behind that. Watching Halo: Legends stirred my desire for more Warhammer media, and I think anime would work well as a platform for it. Warhammer 40k, with all of its ridiculous badassery, really lends itself to media that are slightly more impressionistic, in my mind.

I think anime would be a great platform, ONLY because you would be able to really represent all the 40k universe via animation versus live action. I mean it would be great to see a favorite teen actor tattooed up as a Blood Claw.....LOL.

Actually, if I remember correctly, the Wolves did pull a 300, but with Orks. The last stand of Wolf Guard Ranulf, it should be in the 2nd Ed. codex.

Besides, we're the only Legion cool enough to do a 300.

:)

Yup! and it was exactly like the Spartan's Battle of Thermopylae, just there weren't as many Space Wolves IIRC. and when it was all said and done, the orks built a shrine around Ranulf's body.

i think it could be done and not go into the "overboard" blood and guts kind of movie. once it could be handled kind of like 300 (seems to be the closest thing to combat to, i guess Band of Brothers might also work as a comparison for gun fights) where most "kills" are a quick event (i also know that they slow-mowed some of them for awesome effect) and then have some of the pivotal moments be a light on the "brutal" side. so i guess i would say they could make it more intense then brutal.

you want a realistic style fight, go watch the fight scenes in Braveheart...its not a quick death, its slow and painful as you bleed out.

Braveheart was just conventional weaponary though. I think chainswords would be pretty brutal to show Braveheart style.

Power swords, frost axes, and wolf claws would probably have cauterizing movie effects.

Powerfists and thunderhammers would be intense crushing movie effects.

I think the very best adversary would be Chaos. It would be the best setup for sequels.
