Thinking of building up to a 2000 pt Space Wolf Army

So I've been miming for a while to make a 2000 point competitive army, and I was thinking space puppies, but I've got a few concerns:

1. What are some of the more competitive-styled builds available to a space wolf player?

2. How would I obtain models such as long fangs? Based off what I've seen, I have a feeling I'm going to be taking some for a competitive army, but I can't find the models on GW's site. Do I just have to buy devastator squads and convert them? If so, is there anything that is reccomended I buy in order to make the conversions?

3. Not really digging the color scheme. I couldn't find any pictures of successor chapters in the codex, so am I free to make up my own?

Thanks!

1. with Logan Grimnar in your army Wolfgaurd become troops choices...how does 2000ots of Terminators that are scoring units sound?

2. nowadays there is the Space Wolf Pack-buy that, then a box of devestators-intermingle the parts.

3. The only official second founding was "the ill fated Wolfbrothers"-but there is the lost 13th company...

1) Competitive builds: Open codex, build list. The codex is pretty flexible in general. 2k of termies is fun tho :)

2) like above said, Dev box + Wolf Pack box.

3) Wolf Brothers kinda went the way of the dodo bird, 13th Co uses the Pre-heresy grey color scheme, basically codex grey, fortress grey, etc. for the most part, as long as they are some shade of grey nobody really cares. And other than the main grey color scheme, they are pretty customizable with individual icons and such.

1. Believe it or not, shooting based space wolves are very very effective. Three Long Fangs units, a couple rune priests, razorbacks, and the hard hitting thunderwolves.

2. Unfortunately, yes. I have 15 Missile Launchers (the only really good, cost effective choice for long fangs, synergetic with split fire) worth of long fangs, and many of them are actually converted Marine Hunter Killer missiles from the vehicle kits. Most of my army is leftover from before these new models came out, so lots of guys have a handful of Wolf Parts, You should ask around your local store and see if anyone has extra missile launchers from their tac squads.

3. Of course, you are ALWAYS able to make up your own color scheme. As long as things are easily identifiable. "Hey, that guy has a meltagun, and im playing space wolves" If you're going to use a color scheme similar to that of another army, just be sure that what you model on the special guys is very obvious. Descern between a Wolf Guard with a power fist and a Grey Hunter with a power fist, add a banner, different color shoulder pad, what have you.

Terminators are not cost effective after any decent upgrades, scoring or not, your model count is small, minimal mobility as well, and you need to avoid that in a competitive environment.

The codex is indeed flexible, but most of the codex isn't competitive.

Here's a few thoughts for competitive units:

5 Grey Hunters:: Power Weapon, Meltagun, Wolf Guard, Power Fist, Combi-Melta

-- Razorback:: Lascannon+Twin-Linked Plasmagun

1 Thunderwolf Cavalry:: Thunderhammer, Storm Shield

5 Long Fangs:: 5 Missile Launchers, Pack leader, Wolf guard

Rune Priest:: Chooser of the Slain, Living Lightning, Jaws of the World Wolf

Rune Priest:: Chooser of the Slain, Tempests Wrath, Living Lightning

5 Wolf Scouts:: Meltagun, Meltabombs (provided it's a 2k game), Power Weapon, Wolf Guard, Power fist, Combi-Melta

The only downside to a list with lots of shooting, is the high number of kill points you will have, but the large amount of armor, 5-8 razorbacks, and insane amount of shooting will force any player to hide most of the game, especially if their goal is to advance. In a 2000 point shooty wolf list, it's perfectly reasonable to have well over 30 heavy weapons.
