Brother-Chaplain Gaius
I always wanted to start either Templar or Wolves as my second army(3rd technically). I've decided it will be Space wolves but I hate that baby blue color scheme, would it be acceptable to paint my wolves gray instead? and keep the yellow shoulder pads I know little to nothing on their alternate schemes or fluff behind it because you all know im primarily a diehard Ultra player. The last thing I want is to field an army others will frown at or dismiss as absurd according to fluff :( thanks guys Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/198725-space-wolves-acceptable-color-schemes/ Share on other sites
ulrak
My wolves are codex grey with fortress grey highlights. It's the pre heresy colour scheme for the wolves and quite a few players here on BnC use those colours. But ofcourse they are your SW's and you can paint em any colour you wish :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/198725-space-wolves-acceptable-color-schemes/#findComment-2367403 Share on other sites

Levitas
Grey! And no space wolf player would ever frown at grey of most shades. There is no set in stone method, just many many varients that are as diverse as SW players. I am not a huge fan of the studio army in the codex. The gold and brass look nice but the shade of blue grey is not for me and they over do the yellow. Remember that the yellow pad is mainly ragnars company, glance at the codex and you'll see the other wolf lords have reds/blacks and whites. Yellow is also used on blood claw and wolf guard markings, and thats pretty much all I use it for. Pick a grey that is easy, fast and fun. like a girl in a club Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/198725-space-wolves-acceptable-color-schemes/#findComment-2368295 Share on other sites

Wispy
I do codex gray, mainly because I love how much it makes the red and yellow pop. I think enough do it that you're all right. I can't do the shadow gray like GW - if I could I would, but I can't. So codex gray it is. Ryzouken
I saw an interesting SW army the other day, bright bloody orange it was. Like rust. Didn't look half bad. Essentially, what color you paint your marines doesn't much matter, as depending on what era of fluff you listen to, your guys can be one of ten different colorations or camo patterns (that's right! Back in the day, marines ran around in camo colored armor when necessary.) Just take your time, practice a bunch, and paint it well and no one should complain. WolfLord Digby
Dark grey is the way to go IMO, i use codex grey and red gore as the basis for my army with different right shoulder pads depending on the unit. stinkenheim
i use a custom mix of adeptus battlegrey, chaos black and regal blue to create a dark, bluey grey colour. i then highlight it by adding fortress grey. i did this because i wanted a greyish colour scheme but still wanted the bluish tones in it, it kind of looks like dark thunder clouds which to me suits. my great company is that of bjorn stormwolf's, so whilst according to the new fluff the shoulder pads should be grey i chose yellow as it created a nice contrast and also added some warmth to an otherwise cold colour scheme... i think space wolves are probably the easiest going group when it comes to colour schemes so you are unlikely to offend any of us if you choose to go a bit different, just don't put them in dresses. have fn with your army and paint them in a way that interests you and that you like and to hell with anyone that doesn't agree with it :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/198725-space-wolves-acceptable-color-schemes/#findComment-2371522 Share on other sites
