Imperial Fists tactics

I'm building an Imperial Fists army but I don't know what to get? I've got a devastator squad, the black reach set, lysander, a scout squad, and a 10 man assault squad with 2 plasma pistols...There has been talk of the Lysander wing as well but that's too heavy points wise

Its kindof a hard question for us to answer because a HUGE part of warhammer is playstyle. Some people choose to be the Emperor's hammer by smacking the unholy crap out of His enemies while others prefer to be His spear by doing quick, surgical strikes. Some like power fists on tactical sergeants, while others don't.

I guess what would help is a simple question: are you looking for a fluff Imperial Fists or a competitive list? (not saying Imperial Fists fluff list cant kick xeno butt, but...) If the latter, who do you mostly fight or do you want an all comer's list?

I recommend before anything else getting another tactical squad and two razorback sets. You can make the razorbacks interchangeable to a rhino for your tactical 'rines. Personally, on the assault squad I prefer 2 flamers and most definitely a power fist. You can even get them a jump Chaplain to make them a dam pretty and killy squad. A librarian will do nicely in an all comers list, too, but as for HQ definitely stay with Lysander. Put Lysy in with a 10 man tactical terminator squad with 2 cyclone missile launchers and you're golden (no pun intended).

A vindicator would be perfect for Imperial Fists because the way I see it, IF are an "Emperor's Hammer" army. I wish IF had a rule that allowed them to build castles during a game, but NOOO :RTBBB:

Hope this helps,

Kal

Some things that come to mind when people ask me what should I buy to build a fluffy Imperial Fists army?

I say Devastators, of course tac squads, Vindicators, Whirlwinds, techmarines, terminators.

I've always viewed the Fists as a gunline army heavy on artillery and heavy weapons. terminators and stubborn tac squads

That's a complex question which is best answered if you describe how big of an army, and what style you would like first.

Regardless, you'll need at least one more tactical squad, and a few Rhino/Razorback kits. I recommend 1 full tactical squad per 500 points in the army, but in larger games I might drop a squad if I feel the points could be better used elsewhere.

To use Lysander in a fluffy and effective manner, you'll want terminators of whichever variety. I prefer tactical terminators, as they're no slouch in melee with Darnath backing them up, and they get the storm bolter re-rolls. You can walk them up the board or strike them in, your choice. If you prefer Assault Terminators, you'll need a Land Raider to get them forward quickly, which rapidly decides your army style for you.

Aside from those bits, we really need to know more about what you like to give a good answer. Do you want to sit back and blast your opponent to bits, do you want to charge forward into combat, or a mix of the two? Being a Codex Chapter, the Fists can do any of this, and do it well.
