My advice: Dont do anything and don't buy anything until the new codex comes out.

It won't be long, so just be patient for a couple of months.

does anyone know exactly when it will be coming out ??? or a slightly better rough estimate ???

...It might also be early next year..."no one" knows...try to get your hands on used models, Grey knights (PAGK) and ~5 GKT + atleast one Land Raider (we got the best ones, better smoke). An Inquisitor, some shooty warrior henchmen and two mystics are also a very good investment.

Edit:typo

hey thanks i took your advice and got some grey knights off ebay , 5 for 14 GBP :HQ:

cheers dude

Ya they are fantastic models, the Grey Knight Termies are some the best GW has produced in my opinion. If you want any tips on painting them, let me know, I have some pics of my color scheme in my gallery.

yehh they are , gonna have to get me 5 of those soon too :) bit pricey though

im under the impression daemonhunters are difficult to play but why exactly ??? is it just the lack of numbers ??

i want my army to have these things cud anyone tell me whether its a good start or not ??

and what else to add :

5 ist's w/ 2 meltas

another of the same unit both with a transport . . . . but what transport ???? :)

load of pagk's , 5 gkt's and a land raider and im thinkin of that inquisitor corteaz dude or hector rex as my hq wiv his retinue :) what you rekon ????

and thank you for the offer of help , i may hit you up at some point !!

Take look around this subforum, I believe there are several threads on common DH armies.

The GKTs are pretty pricey, but I think they are worth it as they are such well done models. They are a breeze to paint.

I believe rhinos or chimeras are the preferred transports for stormtroopers. GKTs ride in blinging landraiders :)

Coteaz has a fantastic model, but I haven't checked his rules out to see how effective he is. You can always play him as a common Inquisitor Lord, which are great for deepstrike sniping as Mystics let you take potshots at deepstrikers as they come in.

The difficulties when it comes to Daemonhunters right now are two-fold.

1. Lack of Anti Armor. Stormtroopers with meltas and Godhammer pattern Landraiders are about the best you've got. Pure GK especially suffers vs the sheer number of mechanized lists out there right now. I opted to ally my GK models in to a Space Wolf parent list to better represent GKs as a whole in my mind.

2. Lack of models. While each PAGK is more than a match for most models, they are pricey and fall to a Vindicator or what have you just as easy. You might have 10 models for every 30 of your foes and he will bury you with men.

This summer sometime I believe. August or July is the current guestimate.

Dakkadakka put the GK codex in late autum. July is thought to be for WFB8, then the month after their started set, then dark eldar and finally GK. Thats what seems to be rumoured for that area.

Well difficult to play pretty much means:

We can´t win a IG Chimera spam, 9 obli list or Ork/Tyranid model spam without mayor luck. Any other race we still might have a chance :D...Tau gunline can also be a pain but it depends on alot (uphill battle always though). Remember, these are my subjective views.

Why?

- We have few troops (if we don´t go the IG way, which, frankly IG does better so why play DH in the first place :P)

- Uh`Transports? Our GK are footsloggers, ok the stormbolter does give us some reason to footslogg, but I´d also rather have a 35pts transports (or a stormraven :P).

- Uh`Anti-vehicle? We got our Drednoughts (which can´t deep strike btw) who can, and should be played as Hellfire Dreds (Missile+TLLC), and maybe u can count a LR as AV, thought it is most certainly not it´s main purpuse.

- 2/3 of "every" scenario is an objective game, with maybe 3 troops we got a hard time getting any scoring units at objectives.

Other then this we are fine :D

There are several useful topics linked up top in our Online Resources topic pinned at the top of the page. The best topic for making relatively competitive army lists out of just the DH codex can be found in the Hunting daemons topic linked therein.

The rumors concerning a possible new DH or GK codex are common and persistent. But nobody has any real information about it, just a bunch of conclusions drawn from logical inferences. (E.g., the removal and non-restock of Inquisition codexes and models from stores, the fluff surrounding the new BA Storm Raven skimmer vehicle, with a strong implication that it's a GK vehicle first and foremost, etc.)

I would suggest that unless you also have an interest in playing Imperial Guard, you keep your GK purchases to a minimum until we have more information. I say this because the very best DH army lists actually induct at least one IG platoon and take several heavy weapons teams and Chimeras along with them. Doing so covers a LOT of the holes inherent in the rest of the army list.

True but because we are unsure of the near future in regards to inducted guard, buying them means a chance of obsolete units, PAGK and GKT on the other hand MIGHT be plastified but they are still awesome models, 5 GKT and 10 PAGK are a good investment in my eyes.

Which is why I said, "unless you also have an interest in playing IG". :D

Ooooh get it, wink-wink hint-hint nudge-nudge ;) ;) :nuke: ;) ;)

.... ok I'll stop

In other news, Ill give some advice myself.

1) IST. The stormtroopers are our current backbone, take a minimum of two squads with meltaguns in rhinos

2) PAGK. they look cool so I always take a squad, load them up with incinerators in a land raider or a crusader and deploy strategically

3) inquisitors, I like them. that is it, I like them. add mystics and meltavets or heavy bolterservitors and you got yourself a dedicated antimech/horde unit

4) GKT. They look even cooler and pack more punch, expensive as hell/warp/immaterium though.

5) land raiders. Awesome but since melta metagame don't expect to win the game with raiders alone.

6) dreads. cheaper than raiders but much more fragile and no transport capacity

7) Inducted guard. As #6 said, cheap bodies/guns/operation-human-shield

8) Assassins. not the crappy DCA, no the real deal. did I say assassins I meant the Callidus AWIYE is annoying. polymorphine is scary and C'tan sword is painfull

I doubt we'll get squatted... Would be sad though.

I'm all for the LR/Rhino spam. 2 rhino's each with scoring units and a LR with a scoring unit in it. three scoring units, one of the IST's is a good camper (unless you know they are coming for you), the other is great for tank hunting. That is the only thing I use my IST's for... Tank Hunting (unless I need to squat on an objective.)

I recently played a 1250 point game with my list (5GKT in a LR, 8 PAGK w/2incins in a LR, 2 sets of IST's in rhinos) against an all infantry Space Wolves list. I let him deploy and it was annihilation. I didn't even get my IST's close to anything of his. I let my termies and PAGK and my LR's do all the work. I whittled him down to 6 wolf guard (I think... they were nasty in CC - they had something like 40+ attacks, all re-rollable hits because of an upgraded char) before my LR's and Gray Knights died. I had 1 IST and an entire rhino with 5 IST's left, though, the game was over at that point.

I could use some advice here also. I am a DIY DA player who now focuses on large 6000 point and up Apoc games. I run a Deathraven unit with multiple Libbies,Chappies, assorted LR's, Dreads, a Damocles and occasionally I'll bring out the Reaver.

Wanting some variation I have picked up the Lord Coatez box set with his Retinue. The primary reason is to unleash some of my Assassins.

So the question is, whats his team organized as? I know a Gun Servitor, and the Familiar when I see one, but the floating skulls, cherub, and padre looking dude leave me wondering what they are?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks.

i can answer this one :jaw:

the cherub and 'servo skulls' are both familiars : they give the inquisitor lord +1 initiative per model plus he can purchase an extra psychic attack !!!!

not sure what you mean by the padre dude lol but im assumin its the dude with the plasma pistol , that'll be an acolyte :u can basically give him a wound instead of the inquisitor lord and he can have like 15 points of equipment :)

hope your question is answered bro !

peace

Good answer :D

if you have or know someone who has the Daemonhunters book, take a look at page 14 and 15. For example, under "THE FAMILIAR" it has, in parenthasis, (Cherubim/Servo-skull/Psyber-eagle). It took me a while to understand what was in that box as well. If you cross check the pieces in box with what GW says is in the box (from their website), you get:

2 servo skulls - Familiar -

1 Cheribum - Familiar -

1 Gun Servitor (with Multi Melta) - Warrior -

1 Acolyte (Guy holding the book on a stick with a plasma pistol)

1 Sage (little frail guy)

The easy ones to get are the servo skulls, the cheibum and the gun servitor. After a little reading and picture comparing, the other two kind of fall into place!

Also keep in mind the current edition of henchmen is Designed to be fast and loose. Check the modeling section of the Codex as well to see all sorts of examples of customizing your henchmen. As long as you know which is what and they fit the equipment description of what sort of henchmen they are, the sky is the limit in terms of modelling ;)

As an example, I use a Necromunda Enforcers Cybermastiff as a "combat servitor armed with powerfist" and two Space Marine Scouts with shotguns for "Acolytes" in my own retinue. I've never heard a single complaint and people seem to like the idea of a cybermastiff with the bumper of a Rhino between his jaws as much as I do ;)

I wouldn't start now, GK get confirmed in but 12 days via the email newsletter apparently :teehee:

Wait the 12 days before you buy anything or if you have already done so keep the receits.

If you would have asked this 3 months ago here is what I would I of said:

5 IST, 2 meltaguns, rhino with extra armour and smoke launchers. Learn them, love them, suicide them at land raiders. I field 2 thouhg most say 3.

GKT (with grandmaster or without, doesn't matter altough I find Grandmaster pure awseome) + Landraider crusader = awseome

DECIDE YOUR PLAYSTYLE. Mine personnaly is charge and kill/shooting retreat. If you want a bit random but reactive playstyle you need to lose the crusaders and grab Godhammers. The charge style has some problems in the long range anti tank department which godhammers are good at but as you will be up close all the time anyway you can rely on the multi melta and the hurricane bolters are just so much better agains hordes.
