Firefighter X's World Eaters [ PIC's Inc. now ]

Recommended Posts

Right, so I've been a long time forum lurker and have decided to finally man up and post what I'll be working on. Furthermore, after 13 years in the hobby it is long passed time for a complete and painted army [ that I actually keep for myself ]. Be forewarned, I'm a meticulous [ ie. SLOW painter ] and work long hours so I'll update when I can. Rest assured though that I WILL finish this army.

I plan on building a World Eaters force similar to what Wade has done over at his site. [ link http://grandmasterwade.webs.com/ ].

Also DezartFox and his site [ link http://www.the-vanus-temple.com ] were HUGE influences for my Khârn conversion. You'll see..... soon

I'm building the army in 4 point tiers ; 1750 for tournies, 2000 for one off games at the LGS, 2500 for 'ard boys [ hopefully ] , and 3000 for Apoc at the LGS or a friend's house.

Enough prattle, here's the 1750 core list, or moreso what I'm working on now;

HQ x2

Khârn-165 { conversion }

I spent the whole weekend putting together & priming the 24 Berzerkers { 2 Forgeworld Upgrade kits } with some conversions tossed into the mix. And also I've done a conversion for Khârn as I was never too fond of the old mini.

Pics inc soon hopefully guys. I look forward to any C&C in the future.

Thx, FFX.

Right... so I warned you all that I'm a slow painter, LOL.

Anyway after tinkering with the camera we have, and a clear day, I was able to get some pics up.. They are grainy so I'm sorry.

First up, the work space [ A.K.A. the dining room table ]

Here's my color scheme test mini [ still needs some highlights, a sepia wash and a matte finish ]

I know it's a pretty standard Zerker paintjob, nothing fatastic, but any C&C would be greatly appreciated.

footnote: sorry for the large pics, couldn't figure out how to downsize them

First and foremest the main idea for the conversion belongs to Tim Daily [ Dezartfox ] over at his site Vanus Temple, I changed a few things to make it more suitable for me. Thx & much respect for the idea.

Secondly, the mini is nowhere near finished, I blocked in the colors so you guys could get an idea of what I was doing.

Lastly, sorry for the crap pic. Cloudy day + Junk camera.

I hope to hear SOMETHING back as far as C&C.. thx guys.

Huge double handed chain-axe... whats not to love? and Khârn looks like he could be interesting also :) as you say pics are a bit blurry and you have block coloured and haven't high-lighted so I haven't got anything bad to say about your painting :P looking pretty much like the "brighter" classic khorne berzerkers :D

I really wanted a darker color scheme honestly. I figure these guys have been around slaughtering everything in their path for 10,000 years and they wouldn't be so bright and shiny, but after trying a couple different schemes, I fell back on the old reliable one. Sepia wash / Delvan Mud wash and a matte finish will help dull it down some.

Thx Kyr. actually it has 2 washes of Sepia but I guess I need a bit more.. maybe a 50-50 sepia / black .. dunno. I'm also considering the Army Painter Quickshade stuff too. If anyone has any info on the Quickshade, good or bad, please let me know.

I like the pose! I would probably have angled the head of the axe to be enligned with his right arm ( horizontal ) as the grip looks a little straining on the wrist right now. But that's just a personal feel :tu:

I do agree that the red could go with some more depth though.

What I usually do for red, that turns out good and is fairly easy is the followign

Prime black,

Covering coat of mech red ( foundation ),

Black ink 50/50 with water over everything,

Blood red and mech red 50/50 but dont do a totaly covering layer, if there are edges, like between the shoulderpad and it's trim, or the lower leg and the rim going around the very bottom of the leg, then elave a thin line of the blackened red visable.

Finaly a watered down layer of blood red ( note just wet, not inky-wet ), same as above, leaving the edges.

Here you see how the color turns out, as well as what I mean by leaving the edges.

For the gold I'd recommend a quick go-over of flash wash (if you have it) or some of gws washes ( devlan mabe? ) then a nother layer of gold, finaly one with gold/mithril to highlight.

Hope that helps :P ( and if you want me to remove the pics just let me know  )

Cheers!

Nah the pics are fine...they can stay up.

I dunno why it looks pink in the photos.. it's a nice [ bright and flat ] red in person.

My Red Formula:

Flat Black Spray paint [ Wal-Mart $.86 a can ]

Good even coat of Mech Red

1-2 thinned down coats of Blood Red

Blazing Orange extreme edge highlights

1-2 washes of Griphonne Sepia.

Matte Finish.

id wash a black ink (1:1 water ink mix) over all the armour personally, then probably a baal red when it had dried.

Nice painting though very clean
