right within the next few months im gonna be buying a few things towards this DH army and this is what im gonna start with :

enough people have said to get 5 man double melta squads so im taking the advice .

2 of these squads with transports

2 squads of PAGK's

1 squad of GK terminators

and for the hq i was just gonna buy that inquisitor and retinue boxed set

iv got the codex coming soon but not yet

could anyone tell me how close this is to a nice 1000 point army ;) ?????

dont know what to get for heavy support at the moment

maybe 3 dreadnoughts ??

or a land raider

peace

assuming:

bare bones retinue

half strength terminator squad

2x full squad no upgrades on power armor squads

2x stormtroopers as listed above with chimeras

and 3 dreads with assorted point values

you come up to a total of over 1500.

for having so little amount of options for the DH, there are a ton of different views! I play a 1250 list with 2 LR's and 2 rhinos. You are right, 2 Rhinos, each with 5 IST's who have 2 meltas is the way to use IST's - my Tau friend keeps saying "why don't you put more than 5 in there?" then I go destroy his tank and stop caring about the IST's... Actions speak louder than words.

My personal General rule of thumb is to have at least 1 lascannon (that can fire every round) per 500 points. I have a main 1250 list with 4 lascannons, but I really only fire ~2.3 shots per round.

I concur. DH really do lack effective anti-tank beyond lascannons; I normally run 2 GHLR and one LRC at 1500 points, which can deal with most mechanised lists. However, against tank-heavy guard, it stands little to no chance. The last time I played such a list it turned into a really painful battle of attrition that we eventually abandoned due to frustration.
