Start of a new Space Wolves Army

Arraken

Recommended Posts

Basically I'm setting out to make my own Wolf Lord and Great Company. These are the first five models. A big step away from the old spray and line in army I have used for years. The new codex inspired me to redo my favourite army.

The first five of my new great company.

Now, a shout out Grie Velorn of desktop background fame, for making the transfers for me. They gave me A LOT of grief getting them to this stage once he had done them, and I still think they look a little funny. The problems were plentiful in applying them, getting them to stick flat and then cleaning them up with paint. I may write of my woes when I have time.

I plan a details write up of my Wolf Lord Arraken Whitewolf background, as well as the Great Companies. All in good time.

And old scheme Grimnar for giggles. Will be redone aswell.

Really like them. Nice work. I think for the next batch you may try a more complete drybrush/overbrush of the armor to get a more solid color. I use the same method to paint mine, with Adeptus Battlegrey drybrushed/overbrushed.

Out of curiousity, why did you go away from lining in? Did it take significantly longer to do? I have never mastered that technique but I want to try again and would really like to know your technique.

I found it would come up too bright at times, even with the devlan mud wash. I don't mind the imperfect look of the armour, but Space Wolves Grey is unforgiving when laid on strong, and mixing it annoys me. Though, I do agree there are a few patches that could use some work, only saw them in the photos. It's still a sill I am perfecting.

I just gave them a flat colour, lined it in with ink, and that was about it. It was my first true army and it was painted purely for gaming. It was a novice effort at best, quick though with ok brush control. I could develop the method into something that would look good, but damn time consuming.

Nice kick off to a renewed project. I see you've gone the darker route, which is one of the cool things about Wolves.... I don't think there is any one 'correct' colour. I like the direction you've taken, and you'll get better with the dry brush method as time goes on. It's always nice just to get stuff out there... on the table.
