Wolf Guard - Egil Ironrain ( thunder wolf - hammer)

With the Thunderlord done I was able to crank a few of the others out. The mounts are all done now, and gradually getting through the riders. Here is the Thunder Hammer weilding pyscho of the pack:

Wolf Guard - Egil Ironrain ( thunder wolf - hammer)

Egil epitomizes the raw destructive nature of the enraged wolf, along with the brute strength and resilience of a bear. He is not know for subtlety, but his great deeds have not yet been found desiring it. For Egil has faced many foul champions and slayed them all without breaking a swing of his mighty hammer. Even his brothers wince at the pure primal ferocity of Egils blood-chilling assaults, witnessing his blows hammering down like a torrential iron rain.

Even for a space wolf the wolf guard shows little fear of anything, leading into the fray on his midnight black wolf like a whirling legend from the sagas.

He kinda looks like Chuck Liddell.

So you didn't bother with the clear post and pinned him instead? How difficult was the pinning?

Ha ha, he really does!

I drilled pretty deep into his legs and then greenstuffed too. I always planned on using the clear post, but then when i pulled it away after drying it seemed pretty stable. Will blu tac it on for games though to handle the ruff and tumble.

My only quibble with the Dandy Wolves is they dont fit plush to the base, I had to green stuff & pin at least 2 legs on each of the five wolves. But thats nothing to really cry about.

Very nice. I like the added length to the TH. Nice attention to detail. I was thinking of doing my squad with similar weapons. Maybe rough rider type lances and such.

Nice work

Thanks Grimfoe. I have similar weapons on all 5 TWC. The wolves are so big I keep seeing visions of the riders falling off trying to hit something with stubby chainswords..or even worse a power fist. I figure cavalry would adapt their wargear for maximum reach.

I used some fantasy chaos spears as they were relatively cheap

Honestly, that's why I'll never field Canis. It's an ok model and everything, but how the hell is he supposed to hit anybody with Lightning Claws from a mounted position?

Just doesn't make any sense to me, so I'll likely not ever field him. I'll take his mount for my IC on a wolf.

I just think of Canis leaning over and doing ride-by swipes with the lightning claws.

Thanks for all the positive feedback on Chuck!

He got in 3 games over the weekend and bashed the face of a tervigon (or what ever the big bug was called - ate all 5 TH hits!.) Then took out a Nurgle DP and finished the day with a defiler in pieces. All in all - good times.

The other 4 are almost done and will post pics before months end.

@Beef:

The grey is black base-coat, then the grey is custom mixed in a pot. Its Chaos black, Shadow grey and a dash of codex grey. Then shadow grey mid, followed by shadow grey & codex grey highlight.

I like him more than the Wolf Lord. And agreed he does look like Chuck! I've used that head for mine as well...luckily not for the thunder hammer model ;)

How did you paint the wolf's fur?

Its a good "i'm a bit crazy and ride a giant wolf" kinda head ;)

The fur was a mix of shadow grey and black wet brushed on over black, then added dots of codex grey to the mix and dry brushed lighter around the face etc. Then a healthy dose of badab black wash - which i did on all of them. This helps prevent the Disney look and keep them nice n dirty, plus helps smooth the wet brushing.

Very nicely done model. Think I'm going to steal that scheme for the wolf.

No storm shield for the lord? Isn't that a bit risky?

Steal away!

It is and it isnt. His Toughness is boosted upto 5 which honestly does make a difference, plus he has runic armor and a 4+ inv from the belt of Russ. So it is risky against certain builds, but 7 attacks on the charge/counter is nice to have with a str 6 frost blade. I do like the wolf claw & SS combo and run it on my jump pack version, just think this works well on the big bad wolf.
