Thousand Sons or Iron Warriors or World Eaters.

Recommended Posts

Iron Warriors: Probably the easiest the build a competitive list with because it includes many of the Chaos standard choices like Obliterators, Daemon Princes, CSMs with Meltagun/Power Fist and even a squad of Berzerkers.

Thousand Sons: Easiest the worst choice from a competitive perspective. 4++ saves and AP3 Bolters sound cool until you realize that cover saves are so common in 5th Edition which reduces the significance of either upgrade. On top of that you add on that Thousand Sons can't take any reliable anti-tank weapons (1 Bolt of Change shot =/= reliable for most people) and 5th Edition is also heavy on mechanized armies and you come out with an army that really has to struggle to be competitive.

World Eaters: Berzerkers are terrific assault troops but you have to support them with some kind of ranged anti-tank. Most people use Obliterators for this but Autocannon/Lascannon Predators can also work. The important thing to remember is that because you lack Meltaguns on your troops, you need another unit to open up tanks and transports for you.

As far as their background, World Eaters are crazed lunatic psychopaths who (for the most part) only care about killing and spilling more blood in the name of Khorne.

Most Thousand Sons are actually animated shells of armor, their bodies and souls long ago bound to them. They are led by a Sorcerer as his own private bodyguard force. They worship Tzeentch, the god of magic, change and fate.

Iron Warriors are classified as "Chaos Undivided". This normally refers to the fact that they don't worship just one god, instead they ask any/all of them for their support. For the Iron Warriors, Chaos isn't something to be worshipped as much as it is a force, a tool to be used. Their big claim to fame is being masters of siege warfare. They like to bring the big guns to battle and let them do the dirty work.

There is ALOT more we could go into, but that should be a start. Let us know what your intentions are (super competitive army, themed force, if you like a particular color scheme etc) and we can help.
