Damaged pelt?

I think it would add boat loads of character to it. Just make sure that they are big enough to see. As regards making them, there are some good articles on how to make fur in the tutorial threads.

But basically fur and pelts are done in two stages. The first stage is the hide part of the pelt which also doubles as the foundation for the fur on top. Make sure you rupture holes in the hide part and when cured you sculpt the fur around the holes.

Would it look good or silly to have damaged pelt on vehicles, like a Predator or Leman Russ that has hunted down a big wolf, shooting it, the putting the pelt on the vehicle, with holes big enough to be heavy bolter size or lascannon.

And how would you go about sculpting it?

Sorry, but no, not really. Space Wolves go after Fenrisian Wolves as a rite of passage, typically done without their armour or weaponry. They prove themselves and their skill in battle as man against monster. Using a Space Marine tank would completely devalue the ritual, and would bring no honor to those Marines.

Now, does it look alright to throw a wolf skin on a vehicle, sure, but I would consider it as having been placed there by a crewmember who earned that pelt on his own and who hung it outside to prevent himself from getting all tangled up inside his vehicle.

What would look cool is a piece of Tyranid Carapace with some big bullet holes in it, taken as a trophy...

That reminds me of the incident when a Chaos Sorcerer was run over by a Rhino (DS scattered). I was planing for a long time that i would get one of those figures cut it in half and glue it to the front of the Rhino with appropriate splatters.
