True Grit
Hello, I have recently returned to 40K after 5 or so years away from the hobby and was thrilled when I saw the Sons of Russ had a new codex. A long time SW fan, I bought it last week and have been working on modifying my old 3rd Edition SW army to the new rules. So far, I have been lucky in that the weapon load-outs on most of my packs are still valid and I have not needed to change much in the way of models. However, after looking over my GH packs (each of which has a WG Pack Leader with Bolter and Frost Blade - a valid load-out with the old 'True Grit' rules), I noticed a potential problem - if I choose to shoot with the pack using bolt pistols in order to charge the same turn, the WG pack leader is forced to shoot with his bolter (as there appears to be no way to equip WG with bolter, bolt pistol and frost blade). From what I understand of the 5th Edition rules (only just recently bought the rulebook), this means the unit cannot charge as a rapid fire weapon has been used. Is this the case rules-wise? If so, would I be better off equipping my WG Pack Leaders with bolt pistols instead? Thanks in advance :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/199334-wolf-guard-pack-leaders/ Share on other sites
Korhal Ragingspirit
Welcome back, The WG Pack Leaders that you currently have can work fine since you are able to choose not to fire with models of your choice although the pistol may be better to get more Frost Blade attacks. I will say that a Bolter and Frost Blade is not the optimum load out for a WG pack leader. I use the Combi-Melta / Powerfist combo on my Pack Leaders which is fairly popular nowadays but to each their own.
