more then 1 great company on the battlefield?

I bought a couple of space marine battleforces last year which have been sitting on my shelf ever since (how foolish of me to think I could follow the codex astartes B) ), and have now decided that they'll become space wolves (not only because they're fraggin' awesome, but also because Fenris is the closest marine homeworld from Cadia - which is my other army).

So now I've started by buying a wolf pack box to start wolfenizing my basic marines, but there aren't nearly enough transfers for all the marines I've got. Since I'm not that good at freehanding, I've decided to give my grey hunters Ragnar's marking, skyclaws Bjorn Stormwolf's marking, and wolf scouts Erik Morkai's marking.

So now comes my question to the longfangs at this feast; how viable is this? I.e. how often will you see the great companies working together on the battlefield. From reading each company's entry, it seems that this could be a common occurence; Bjorn's frontal assault coupled with some stealthy scouts from Erik's company.

As far as I'm aware it'd be a pretty rare occurrence, due to each GC being deployed independently and maintaining it's own mini-fleet.

However if the battle was important enough, such as a defense of Cadia (See what I did there?) from a Black Crusade or even Fenris itself then I see more than one Company being deployed. Admittedly you'd end up with the entire fighting strength f the Company but your idea sounds like fun and would make sense, the other elements of the Company's are obviously just out of sight.

I say go for it!

for me it would be kind of weird. i am bad a free handing too, so i take a painstakingly long time to paint my pack markings. but i could see it as what you are fielding, is something like the flank of a line in some massive battle where more companies were deployed to assist. i would suggest trying to keep it to as few as possible though.

it depends on the theatre thy are fighting in. in large scale fights suc as black crusades or when stopping a Waaagh then its perfectly logical that multiple companies will be present and spread out across different combat zones.

if in your fluff its more of a small scale fight then its less likely but could still happen. it could even be figthing around fenris where they simply sent any elements that were present at the fang and able to deploy at short notcie, with other elements of the great companies making their way there when either they had resupplied, had armour mended of when injuries were treated.

basically as long as you can come up with a decent reason for doing it then no one can argue against you, and if you don't want to come up with a bit of fluff then just don't worry if people moan about it.

@grey mage; I hadn't thought of ebay yet... So I've checked e-bay, and bought myself 4 extra transfer sheets, so it looks like I'll be running a single great company after all. Thanks for the suggestion.

I really thought inter-company cooperation would be more common, but it seems my interpretation was different from established background. Next on my reading list though (after helsreach) is the space wolves omnibus (and afterwards ofcourse the second one), so I'll probably be doing ragnar's company if those books are as great as everybody says they are.

Thanks for the input everyone :D

those transfers look, good,

Personnaly the only time you would see 2 companies working together would be for a large battle. so say ragnars company spearheading the assualt element whilst another lords company infiltrates. They wont be joined at the hip like grey mage says and will be deployed seperetly
