Re-rolls with Gets Hot

Someone mentioned Lysander in a Sternguard alpha strike list and I've been toying with it in my head. The basic idea is the Sternguard fire vengeance rounds and roll a couple of 1s, but with Lysander you get Bolter Drill (re-roll failed to hit with bolters). I would assume those 1s rolled would still count as wounds, but you can still re-roll them. Is this correct?

You reroll them and take the second roll. So if you roll a one then roll a 4 you are golden.

The second roll always stands so any wounds suffered from the first roll is ignored.

indeed, but be aware that means if you roll a 2 for the first, and a 1 for the reroll, your SOL

But the re-roll does not apply to combi-bolters, right? And if it does apply, it does not apply to combi-plasma re-rolls... right?

Lysander's reroll applies to combi-bolters, but only when firing the combi-bolter as a bolter, never when firing it as a plasma.

Sternguard have vengence rounds, which are ap3 but has "gets hot"

This was covered years ago with obliterator's twin linked plasmaguns. But yes, you take the second roll :D .
