Mods' Arena of Death entry

Ahoy,

 

For those of you who aren't aware, there's an Arena of Death gearing up for Mods, Cedos, Codiciers and all the rest of the staff and we'll be fighting for the honour of our chosen forum. The thread is here, and if your favourite forum isn't represented yet, then go shame your friendly neighbourhood staff member in ponying up.

 

For my part, I'll be championing the Liber Astartes, and thus I present Clan-Champion 'Black' Eoin dhu McGregor of the Sons of Dagda. I'm not yet set on what rules he'll be using for the AoD, but he'll be serving as my Emperor's Champion afterward. Here's the pictures of him before I ruin him with paint:

I'm not sure yet how I'll be painting the sword. I was thinking either bronze/brass or maybe marble to match the (intentional) crudeness of the blade... or just glowy Relic Blade-style... I'm also not totally satisfied with the hilt. While I want the sword to have a certain simplicity, the hilt seems a little too plain. Suggestions, anyone?

Sweet! Once I'm done moving I'll try and get my Marines painted, and we'll have to have a match. As for the hilt I can't think of anything of the top of my head, but I'll think of something sometime I'm sure.

The hilt seems a bit small for such a large sword, so it might look good if you cut off the feather thing, extend the handle with gs or something, perhaps a marine's handwidth. You could then put the feather thing on the end of the extended handle, and then greenstuff on some of that wrapping you'll sometimes see on swords. Or if you're talking about the handguard part of the hilt, to fit with the rough hewn theme, it might actually look good to lose the handguard altogether, so it looks more hewn from stone or whatnot.

Alright, so I extended the handle, but I've run out of GS so doing the wrapping will have to wait. I also trimmed down the hilt a bit, and I'm thinking of adding spikes to it (again, once I've gotten more GS...)
