freakytah
Hey all. I thought I'd post what I have done so far on my first dread. I think it looks pretty decent so far for my first one but I'm just looking for some comments and suggestions on what I could improve on. I haven't done the sarcophagus cover yet, and I have no idea how to paint letters so tiny for his name so some tips on that would be awesome too! http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt66/freakythaii/DSC02057.jpg http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt66/freakythaii/DSC02062.jpg http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt66/freakythaii/DSC02060.jpg http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt66/freakythaii/DSC02059.jpg http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt66/freakythaii/DSC02058.jpg http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt66/freakythaii/DSC02061.jpg
ShinyRhino
Looks solid for your first Dread. The green is very smooth, and the metallics are well done. My only suggestionis to give your freehand another coat of white, and then tidy it up with the green. As for doing tiny lettering, it just requires a steady hand, and a good detail brush with a sharp point. Work from the center, outward. For example: http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z43/goalie20/Warhammer%2040K/castorpolluxfinalfront.jpg I did the lettering on these guys by finding the center of the scroll first. Then for "Castor" I lightly lined in the T, then S, then O, A, R, C. This makes sure all your letters will fit on the area! Use a very small amount of paint on your brush, and lightly apply each line of the letter. For an R, I do the vertical downstroke, then the arc to make it into a P, and then the angled line that makes the R. Go back over the lines very carefully once the pait is dry, until it's dark enough for your liking.
Rider-75
looking good. nice amount of detail coming in. as above, go back over the freehand white, keeping the paint thin enough to flow well. for the black writing you can either use a very fine brush with a little paint that just flows, or find a really fine micro-marker. freakytah
Cool thanks for the tips guys. I'll be sure to do another coat of white over the lettering, the hardest part for me is the curve of the "3". My detail brush doesn't stay as tight as it once did, so maybe I'll have to get a new brush before I finally tackle the name.
freakytah
Hey guys here's a quick update as to the progress of my dread. I think its pretty close to being finished now, I just need to tackle the whole name thing and add some purity seals or something to the armor. The smallest brush I have is a citadel fine detail brush (the one with the yellow end) is there a smaller firmer brush to get to do lettering? I also need to paint the bolter shells on the base, what is a good color to use? Thanks again for any input you guys might have! http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt66/freakythaii/DSC02066.jpg http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt66/freakythaii/DSC02067.jpg http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt66/freakythaii/DSC02070.jpg http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt66/freakythaii/DSC02071.jpg
