Flesh Tearers Chapter Master

Recommended Posts

It's been a little while since I worked on something for my display shelf, but once I saw the mini for Seth, I knew I wanted to paint him. It's still early days with this project, but I thought I might throw up some pics and get some opinions on him.

(apologies for the photo quality, the batteries are never charged when I want to take photos of something... I'll try and get betterones up tomorrow.

As you can see, I'm still working on getting the red armour right just now, I couldn't find and real guidance on how to do this apart from Grimm Blade's wip threads, so I'm kind of experimenting to try and find what looks right.

Any comments or criticism is appreciated, although I realise there isn't much to comment on just now ;)

Looking good so far, I love the Seth model, I've used it in my converted azrael thread!

Can't wait to see this progress, just remember to keep the red quite dark, the great thing about flesh tearers is that you havn't got to use any orange in the highlights, as it is more of a Red Gore kinda colour,m you can get away with neat highlights of Kommando Khaki, it looks stunning!

Can't wait to see more!

Thanks for the comments everyone, I wasn't expecting so many already :D. I've got some slightly better photos this morning so hopefully what I'm doing will be a bit clearer.

@ Battle-Brother Ludovic: It's been a lot of trial and error but this is how I've done the red so far:

Chaos Black undercoat

Mechrite Red Basecoat

Wash with Baal Red

Wash with Leviathan Purple

Layer on thinned Red Gore

Highlight with 1:1 Red Gore/Blood Red mix

Glaze with Leviathan Purple

Highlight edges with Red Gore/Blood Red/Bronzed Flesh mix

a little rambling I'm afraid, but you did ask :) I think I need to do at least one more edge highlight layer to finish it off, but I'll concentrate on bringing the other colours up just now to see how the affect the red. I might try what Aerixis suggested with Kommando Khaki.

cheers

I know what you mean Aerixis, I keep finding myself amazed by how versitile the 'new' washes are. I really need to get the whole set so I can experiment with them more. Hopefully with a couple of commissions coming up I'll be able to splash out a little soon :P

So it's been a while since I updated this thread, but I was re-inspired to go back and do some more work on Seth over the last couple of nights. Still quite a lot of work to do but I think he's progressing quite nicely. Sorry about the dodgy picture quality, following feedback I've recieved both on this forum and CMON I'm still experimenting with backdrops that don't over-expose my photos.

http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/DSCF8590.jpghttp://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/DSCF8589.jpghttp://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/DSCF8588.jpg

Unfortunately just after I took these photos his backpack fell off and I'm all out of superglue so I'll have to keep the parts separate just now although that might not be such a bad thing as on a related note, I'm having some difficulty getting the back pack and torso to line up. I think I might have to trim off the locator lug and pin the backpack in place instead, not something I really want to be doing now that there's paint on the mini but needs must

c&c much appreciated,

thanks

Thanks for all the comments guys. The reason he's so clean and shiny is that I've yet to master painting battle damage and paint chips and I'm loath to spoil a great mini with a dodgy paint job.

I'm gonna keep working on him as and when I get the urge to as this seems to be yielding better results that just trying to batter away at a mini I don't feel inspired to paint all the time, so the next update may be some time coming or it could be tomorrow night who knows?

cheers

James
