Dark Angels Veterans, Chapter and Company Masters

Hi Folks,

Now for something completely different. I've had these Dark Angels the best part of three years. I had already previously assembled parts of the Dark Angel Veterans so today was really an undercoat and base coat kind of day. I also broke the Chapter and Company Masters out of their blisters and scraped and filed the molds.

I've taken this picture and you'll notice that the chap in the middle looks finished. This was the last miniature I had painted as a Dark Angel and I'm using it as the test figure for the rest of the Dark Angels. The only change I've made is that I'm going to use Commando Kharki to lighten Dark Angels Green - previously I used Bleached Bone.

What do you think so far?

Beautiful!

The robes are perfect, not too light, just the way I like 'em!

Lol I've just started a thread about a converted Azrael, and there's the original laughing in my face!

Lol, love em man, just don't forget, a moment of laxity spawns a lifetime of heresy.

And results in overdue books.

Hi Folks,

Here's a brief couple of photos showing my gradual progress on my pledge. This is hard work!

The first photo is from first thing this morning whereas the second one is from this afternoon. Considering that there's about 2 and half to 3 hours work it's hard to see the effort. I'm hopeful that these will turn out okay as the robed figures look good against each other.

Feel free to comment. :D

Thanks for the comments. These Dark Angels have been sitting around for years and definitely show that they're from my earlier painting days - such as mold lines as a thick base coat.

Still giving them a new lease of life and (finally!) getting them assembled is good for my karma. I'll see what I can get done this week.

I like 'im so far! The banner, whites and robe came out very nice with some excellent shading. I'd love to see a glow on the plasma coils on the combi-weapon, and I'm guessing that you're still going to do his hair and the letters on the banner?

Cheers!

Hi Folks,

Sorry for not having any updates for some time - to make up for the lapse here are some pictures!

Here's my work so far - you might be able to see the squad marking (the number four on the right shoulder pads) and on some of the knee pads. As you'll see some figures need tidying up and they all need a highlight on the armour which will be my jobs for this weekend. I also hope to start on the company master this weekend too.

What do you think so far?

Hi Folks,

Just to give you a bit of an update on my Dark Angels Company Master and Dreadnaught. I can see the finish line with the Dark Angels - hurrah!!

What do you reckon?

Thanks for the comments. The skin does have fortress grey in the mix - which is deliberate. I consider space marines to be man-mountains so I always add a touch of grey to the skin tone. The head isn't a conversion; it's the alternative head that comes with the model.

I should have these figures finished today so hopefully I'll have pictures to follow.

Hi Folks,

Finally! I've finished my Dark Angels. I'm pretty happy how these turned out in the end but I think that I've had enough of robes for a little while. The Dreadnaught was pretty fun to paint as I've tried to give it a dirty and weathered approach. Hopefully it looks like it was battered. :(

What do you reckon of these?

Cheers! The barbed wire comes from Games Workshop. You get a pack with two rolls of barbed wire so you just cut the wire to a size you want and apply it. I used a bit of greenstuff to secure it to the base. Then basecoat with scorched brown, then drybrush with blazing orange and dab bits of Boltgun Metal to give it a bit of life.
