So I was just reading in the GW 2010 Ard Boyz rulings and it says that only GW models maybe used... So unless you want to spam Canis Wolves, looks like no thunderwolves in Ard Boyz :tu:

Am I miss reading it?

Conversions have to start with Citadels and consist majorly of Citadel models. If you ask me, that means glue a bunch of Citadel pieces into the shape of a T-wolf and then greenstuff over it.

Otherwise... Yeah, sounds about right, but I don't normally run a tourney scene, so I may be wrong.

Yeah pretty much. You have to buy Canis models or convert Juggernoughts/Goblin Wolves/Chaos Hounds.

Its asinine, but thats GW for you.

Force people to pay like $200+ for models that are universally despised and ridiculed so that you can participate in their tournaments.

Greenstuff is citadel product right :P

So are the actual Space Marines that'll be sitting on your third-party wolf. I'm not too familiar with 'ard boyz either, but I don't think they have a problem with mixing in things from non-citidel models for units that GW have not yet made available.

If you put a marine on it's back it is usually fine. I just did a tourny and they said it was cool. As it had 17% Citidel. Which was the old Rogue trader rule. If they do not have the model for it no worries if you use 17% GW stuff on it.

So you should be fine with a Marine on it's back.

Only rule nazis will say different and you do not want to play with those people anyways.

Well I would consider the upper torso, all the weapons, all the flocking, and the base itself to be majority of the model being GW product. Just my $.02 though.

And if that isn't enough try some outrageous lies like: "Rest if built from the junk and GS". In case of those TWMs from mrDandy you may wish to add some GS anyway to alter them.

Well I can see how the rule would effective for something like Storm Ravens where the range of scratch built models would be pretty extensive to constantly juggle rules around as far as hull size, base, etc, etc. But Mr Dandy or Russian chicks, or the new Phillipino ones are all standard base and would pose no problem.

It says conversions must be majority citadel miniatures could add some hordes of dead to the base or fighting off a few enemies on the base or citadel terrain pieces as the bases are quite big.

but ring the organisers to see what they say

I just grabbed a couple white lions and threw wolf heads on them and added some green stuff. Then I put magnets on the backs and on my lord's bodies that way if someone cries about my use of a non GW model then I'll pull out the drastically shorter GW figure and proceed to be an absolute jerk about rules/LoS. If they don't say anything I'll just play like I normally do, for fun.
THis is why I dont play in GW Events, people should be able to use models they like as long as it is clear to see what they are!!!

Now the last GW tournament that I went to was almost 10 years ago but they did allow plenty of non-GW models. What they really don't want to have is entire proxy armies using models from different ranges and or children's toys. Caveat: when possible people used suitable GW bitz, the conversions were over the top wicked, limited to some centerpiece models (edit: or abuse model size / LoS / etc)

ie: don't take it for a given that thunderwolves are excluded.

They seemed fairly flexible when I took my converted whirlwind to a GW tournament.

The entire weapon assembly was from a non GW kit. Won best army too so they cant be that anal about it.
