Aerixis
Hey guys! It's been a while since my last conversion corner, so I thought I'd get my latest ptoject up! I wanted to convert Azrael to lead my Angels of Redemption, because the original was a bit static for my liking. I chose to use the new Gabriel Seth miniature, and it proved to be an interesting job because he was soaked in Flesh Tearers iconography! Anyway, here we go! http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h167/aerixis/Azrael/P1010115.jpg I loved the dynamic pose of this model, everything just seemed right when I was planning it. http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h167/aerixis/Azrael/P1010121.jpg I greenstuffed some hair onto his head, using the original Azrael miniature as reference. I've never taken so long greenstuffing a hairstyle before! http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h167/aerixis/Azrael/P1010117.jpg Using my trusty Dremel, I sanded away the entire Flesh Tearers logo from the left pauldron, and sanded it flat, ready some bad-ass freehanded Dark Angels art! http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h167/aerixis/Azrael/P1010118.jpg For the Sword of Secrets, accept no substitute! Easily pinned on, bit precarious at first because I had to strip the sword of paint after finding it stuck to another Dark Angel, lol, so it was kinda soft when the drill bit was chewing it up. Just about straightens up. Its also fun to note, that the Sword of Secrets is the longest power sword miniature in the 40K universe, it's longer than Seths mammoth chainsword, Grey Knight force swords, even that horrible Terminator captain doesn't have as hefty a chopper! http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h167/aerixis/Azrael/P1010119.jpg The backpack is inspired from Azraels artwork in the Codex, with vents that resemble censers. Unfortunatly, Gabriel Seth has a load of decorative crap stuck onto his backpack, so after furiously cutting it away both with a razor saw and a motorized cutting edge, it eventually came away, leaving the purity seals intact and the rest of the backpack sompletely smooth. Using the bottom of the old Imperial Guard flamer tanks from the tank accessory sprue, I drilled 9 holes into each dome, trimmed them to fit, and voila! One artificier backpack! I loved the cloak so much I just couldn't part with it! http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h167/aerixis/Azrael/P1010120.jpg Seth has this little relief of Sanguinius on his right pauldron, but with a little (pun intended) greenstuffing, the chalice becomes the hilt of a sword and his hair resembles a hood! One Angel of Death! The photo doesn't show it, btu the sword has bevelled edges and a groove down the centre....... http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h167/aerixis/Azrael/P1010122.jpg http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h167/aerixis/Azrael/P1010123.jpg http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h167/aerixis/Azrael/P1010124.jpg http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h167/aerixis/Azrael/P1010125.jpg http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h167/aerixis/Azrael/P1010128.jpg You can just about make out the left greave, it had a chalice on it but I just sanded it away and it looks smooth as silk! Next up, the Painting of Azrael! Hope you guys like it so far, lemme know what you think! Aerixis
looking good, this must have taken alot of work. cant wait to see it finished. are you going to GS a cloak onto him and convert a watcher in the dark or just leave it as is? A lot of thought had gone into the cloak idea, but this pose and the ruleset I use (as I use him with a Space Wolf codex as Logan Grimmnar) make him furiously zealous in the games I use him, and a full robe isn't combat efficient, so I figured that he'd forego the whole ensemble on the basis of it makes it easier to move. I am converting a Watcher in the Dark though, I'm using a Ringwraith and a scratch built Lion Helm. More on this when the Ringwraith arrives, mwahaha! Thanks for the comment! Asrech
Damn this guy looks really interesting my friend! Really like the convo. The backpack insence burners are a very nice touch to add to the ceremony and glory of a chapter master ( now if you intended them to be something else, just pretend I wrote something else praising it instead :P ) The blade is big, so big in fact that I wish I had about 8 of them to use in my own conversions hehe. I agree on the decision to skip the robe, it would just cover up all the sweet details of the model, and I think, make him ot busy and bulky. Funny though, just finished skulpting a robe on my sternguard dreadnought pilot ( the plastic ven with exposed marine ) Deff keeping an eye on this thread! Cheers! Man that sounds awesome, I was plannning to do somehting like that for a librarian dreadnought someone had asked me to do for them. I love the idea of this 5000 yeah old warrior in a dreadnought getting popped in the face with a laspistol........
