Dark Mechanicum

Greetings brothers of steel,

I'm posting a blog here in the hope for some ideas and feedback. You may have seen my work pasted on other forums, but I never seem to gather many ideas from feedback there.

This army is intended to take part in the Heresy-era Siege of Terra campaign, so I label it 'Pre-Heresy'. This is simply to set the scene and inform you that any modern features and background is purposely omitted.

The idea behind the force is quite simple - the devolution of the Martian Mechanicum, under the guidance of Kelbor Hal and support from Horus and Daemons. Some members of the army come from various Legions, rejecting their fellow Asartes in favour of the Omnissiah and now Chaos. The Daemons present serve the Mechanicum in hope of securing physical forms through robotic hosts.

The army represents Legio Mortis.

Leading the army is the Arch-Magos. Kelbor Hal himself may be added later, but for now, my generic Magos.

Feedback requested:

The base is small, sometimes the model is top-heavy (ie when not on level surfaces). Can I justify a 40mm base and if so, what could I put on it?

Protecting the Magos are his.. Protectors. I decided to push the idea of these being rogue Techmarines from a mixture of legions, even loyalists.

Feedback requested:

I need ideas fr other legions to make their previous allegiance obvious, despite only having 1 shoulder pad remaining.

The core of the army are maniples of Skitarii Hypaspists. These are often called 'Tech Guard', the core infantry. I plan on 2x12 of these.

Feedback requested:

I need to give 4 of these Meltaguns. I have Meltaguns, but they're just far too big on Krieg models. Any suggestions?

More to follow.

Nice looking models !

On the meltagun issue, how bout some sort of fusion of their arm and the gun (like the obliterators, who just have the tip of the guns coming out of their arms.. )

Looking forward to see some more of your army !

Absolutely perfect idea! I shall give that a go, thank you.

For your Magos prime, figure out a way to do a "terminator" armor and to justify the saves with a skinny ass body, a shield generator. Thus its the generator that gives the 2+ save, with the armor giving the 5+ save. a bit switched around but its the Mechanicum they can do it.

Looks good by the way and I cant wait to see what the rest looks like.

Pardon me if I'm wrong but... don't the Dark Mechanicum use an 8 toothed cog for their symbol whilst the loyalist counterpart use a 12 toothed cog?

Otherwise, brilliant models. What codex are you planning to use with them?

Even if that is so, the models range from 7-11 teeth ;)

My army represents early separation, so it's not entirely established icongraphy at this stage.

Is there any more coming along? These are awesome and I was also planning on doing a model based on this chap here:

I have absolutely no clue on any fluff or books or anything the game almost. Ive been playing chaos for 4 yrs now and i got the rules down, and a sizable army, but i dont really know much of all the background your talking about, i havnt read a single book, and even havnt read the fluff in the actual codex or BBB rulebook actually. But i wanted to comment on the style, coloring , and the look of those models. I think they look fantastic! I might use some of your color schemes and painting coloring/conversions myself for a squad in my own army.

Oh, and btw, what are thos MAgos guy up top, and those Protector models called? like, what should i look for i nthe store to be able to get the blister packs of them? thanks !!!

The base is a Cryx Lord model. I used a CSM chest, Wood Elf hood, Techmarine backpack, servo skulls, Possessed marine right arm, Ork Nob left arm, Chaos marauder shoulder pads, wires from Dragonforge, green stuff.

The Protectors are mostly marines, using the vehicle crew shoulder pads and chests. I used Lord Zhufur's head, an Iron Hands power hammer, Dark Angel veteran legs, and Cryx overlord robot arm.

The Skitarii are Forgeworld Death Korps of Krieg with some Renegade/Empire archer arms thrown in.

I am back in action!
