Old post:

Everyone's making Storm Ravens these days.

I'm building a Storm Hawk, which is a similar unit, part of the Tempus Fugitives ruleset for the Siege of Terra next month.

Mine is Mechanicum owned and very much inspired by the Thunderhawk design.

I am looking for further suggestions before I finish it up. I plan on adding landing gear weapons and a tail, likely some icons and extra detail too.

Wow..i must say i am reallly liking the looks of your design. I have been toying around with ideas as well..and i too want to make a stormraven that resembles its bigger brother. I really like some of the elements so far in your design, with the extra air intakes on the side, which can be used to power the vectoring engines the stormraven is suppose to have lots of. I also like how it looks to have 4 exit ramps. According to the rules it has 4 access ramps, one in front, 1 in the rear and 2 on the side. What i am trying to figure out is where does that leave the space for the dreadnoughts grapples...unless they are actually inside the back cargo hold and the dread can only leave via the back ramp.

I will definitely be keeping my eye on this one, and if by any chance yours so far is looking like the most potential build i would try to copy when i get around to building my own stormraven.

I think the stormraven is one of those units that bring out the best in modellers. so many people that just want one but can't buy them, it makes for some mighty fine ideas. probably what GW wants, spark the imagination a bit.

really sleek model, very cool

Still contemplating tail and engines.

Well Taerij, a full size thunderhawk has a T shaped tail. Personally i would incorporate a similar build for the tail since its still an STC construct, and in the description is says it is similar in design to its bigger brother. So i would add a T shaped tail, like a T hawk. So far your build really resemebles a miniature T-hawk, so i would stick to those similarities. Your engine design is already similar to a T-hawk. Being a smaller ship i wouldn't think it would need more than those two big engines on it anyways.

As for your dilemma for the vunerablity of the back engines. You could also incorporate another feature of the thunderhawk and that is the small wing that overlaps the engine from the main body. In this case you could attach a wing that goes from the main body to the engines. This would add some needed weight to the top area, but also take away form the vunerability of the engines. It would also add a little more area for the wind to catch to give the vehicle needed lift, and since the vehicle is suppose to be more agile than a T-hawk, it woudl help provide that extra stability in sharp turns. Just some ideas, but it would also give you a place to add one of the twin linked guns to, since on a T-hawk, they have the small wings that go over the top of the engines and has a pair of lascannons attached to the end of them. You could then add the lascannons/plasmagun or assault cannons there by having the wings overlap the engines just enough to attach a gun in between the top wing and bottom wing on beside the engines. This way it would leave the vectored engines on the main wings tips as they are, for maneuverability.

Also any chances we can get a good shot of the underside. Also the tutorial is great. I hope to be able to scratch build one of my own, and so far..as i stated, yours is the best example i have found so far. I don't particullary care for the land raider hybrids because they look to much like land raiders and less like a baby thunderhawk.

Howdy folks!

I finished the construction of this model a while back. Every stage was documented and then I summarised the process in a tutorial for bell of Lost Souls, but they didn't post my article very well! However, the pictures are all in tact, so easy to follow.

From my own site, in stages:

I've started painting up the Storm Raven. Lots of weathering and shading done. Some more black body work and then highlights to follow.
