Upcoming tournament

First question. Should I go for it?

It's been a while since I've done more than just screw around on my own and try to figure out how things work. My last real game was a year and two months ago.

Reecently a new gaming store opened up five minutes away from the Inver Hills Community College campus, where I just happen to go to school. Armored Ogre is the name, and it's been open for maybe two months or so now. It's not the largest place, but thus far the owner has been pretty top notch with getting in whatever it is you're willing to pay for.

My friend has been volunteering a lot of time at the store to help Mike get things going, and has even initiated a 40k Tourney there, coming up on May 15th. Of course, I was his first freaking phone call. I believe it's an 'ard Boyz style tournament, but at this moment I'm not sure.

So I've been rather half-assed about bringing my Wolves up to snuff. It's a 2k points tourney, and I'm going to need a couple upgrades.

I'm wishy-washy on going through with it, though. Being that it's been so long since a real game, and I can't seem to grab time with anyone else to rehash my memory, I'm not too sure I should jump into a tournament especially when I didn't do well a year ago to boot.

Grand prize is a battleforce of your choosing. I suppose I should risk it even for that. It'd be a hell of a boon for my IG since I'm starving for infantry.

Today I purchased a drop pod. If I decide to enter, I'm going to need one more, and I'd like to have another Vindicator and a Land Raider Redeemer to help me out.

Money in versus enjoyment out.

You have the money, it's worth it. Play to win if you like, but if you have more fun just playing, go for that as well. It'll be good to brush up on the new codex rules.

If you do win, it's good you have a plan for the battleforce of your choice.

I vote consider it carefully and do it if you feel the time and money put in can be safely afforded. Don't lose time and effort from classes, but also work in a fun thing to do to unwind.

So go for it, as long as you feel good about doing so.

I think you should go for no other reason than it gets you back into playing and you'll have a lot of fun. That said, I wouldn't expect to win any games or the tournament as a whole, heck, if it were me, I'd concede at the start of the first round to my opponent and play them for fun to get back in the groove and go from there. Is there an entry fee? Do you know anyone willing to play you before the game with even a smaller points load?

Really, you don't have to practice your entire 2k army in one go, running even a 1k will get you valuable data and practice that will translate quickly to improved tournament performance.

I think the entry fee is about $15. I'll have to check on that, though.

I've been trying to haggle my friend to get in a practice game or two before that date, but I think he's busy all week, and even so, would only be able to deploy 500 points worth, and refuses to play against my Terminators.

I'd go for it. Been playing tourneys myself for some time, always taking some of the last spots in rank, but having a great time and learning a lot. If you have the cash it is well worth it just to get some games in and to get a feel for the rules and army. Thats what I did a few years ago when I started, and people are very friendly around here if you explain before the game that you dont know all the rules and stuff 100%.

GO FOR IT! :)
