Hey guys.Sorry if this has been posted allready but I cant find a good answer to my questions and Im new to this and dont have anybody close to help me.The shop is like 40km away from me and I dont have a car. :(

Ok I bought the assault on black reach set, played a few times and love it and deided I want to be Space Wolves. But I feel that the set or rule book doesn't explain things that good to me,so I need some help with setting up a Space Wolves army.

I see every model counts 15 points which totals up to 150 if I have 10 models.

1. When I add a plasma gun to a model, does that add 10 points to that total or subtract it?Because I see a flamer is free.

2. One grey hunter may replace his close combat weapon with a power weapon or power fist.Does that mean I cant have a model with a power fist and one model with lightning claws?

3. what does the big 2 handed axe count as?

4. Lets say in an assault phase, both parties have drawn or the losing squad pass the leadership test, and the two squads are still in base contact.what happens then?Do both move away or fight another close combat or what?

Please help me lol.

A Grey Hunter will cost you 15 points. Included in that 15 points you get the Grey Hunter himself, Power Armour, Close Combat Weapon, Bolt Pistol, Bolter, and Frag/Krak Grenades.

#1) If you want to, you can buy him a Plasma Gun instead of the Bolter. That will cost you an additional 10 points - making him 25 now.

#2) You can have exactly one Grey Hunter with a Power Fist (for an additional 25 points) or Power Weapon (for an additional 10 points). I don't think you can have a wolf claw (Space wolf Lightning Claw) at all, but don't have my codex handy...

#3) I treat it as a close combat weapon, and claim that my space wolves are big and vicious enough to be able to use it one handed if necessary... :(

#4) Once Close Combat has started, it continues until one side either flees or dies. If you finish the close combat round for your turn and there are still people on both sides alive and not fleeing then another close combat round is fought in your opponents turn. This continues until there's nobody left to fight... Whilst a unit is locked in close combat, generally speaking nobody can shoot at them...

IF it's close combat with a vehicle then you don't carry on fighting, but instead you back off 1". Then your opponent gets his go, where he might drive off or shoot you, then if you are still close enough, alive and want to try again you can charge the vehicle again...

Just as an addendum to #3:

It may be two-handed, but that doesn't mean you can't model it as one-handed. If you're a converting newbie, don't worry about it, but there's no shame in modeling something slightly different than it "should" be.

Otherwise, Sazzer's point-on for all his answers. Also, you managed to pull a two-year Fang veteran out of the dark for his thirteenth post! Well done, Whelp.

Now I understand. With your help I had a look at the codex. So when it says in the wolf guard, any wolfgaurd can replace his bolt pistol and/or close combat weapon with a boltgun etc, does that mean for example I can have 2 models with botl guns,2 with storm bolters and 2 with bolt pistols with power fists?
Wolf Guard can be extremely specialized, however you want almost. You can do exactly the setup you just described and so much more. I just ran a squad with a mix of Bolters, Bolt Pistols, Storm Bolters, Terminators with all variety of weaponry. It wound up being very very effective. To sum it up, when it says "any model" it literally means ANY model.

A few things:

The power weapons for Grey Hunters cost 15 points, not 10.

With special weapons, the first one costs the points listed. If you have 10 models in the squad and have already purchased the first special weapon at the price listed, you can have a second special weapon (any of them) for free. So if you bought a meltagun for 5 pts, and have 10 models, you can have one with a meltagun for 5 points and 1 with a plasmagun for free. Only if you have 10 Grey Hunters in the squad (it is 15 if you are doing the same with Blood Claws, but Blood Claws are bad, so don't).

If you want to get the Wolf Claws, you need a Wolf Guard. You can only have 2 weapons for each Wolf Guard as that is how many they start with (Bolt Pistol and CCW). Other than that, you can pretty much pick out of any of the "any Wolf Guard...". Final note with Wolf Guard, you can take a terminator special weapon (CML or Assault Cannon) for every full 5 Wolf Guard in the squad including Wolf Guard that you intend to split of and lead other squads. You also don't have to have all 5 of them in Terminator armour to take the special weapon on the 5th guy.

I protest. Blood Claws aren't bad, they're misunderstood.

I have a 15 man pack that gets fielded periodically, two flamers and a power fist (plus a Wolf Guard with power fist to keep them under control). They tend to act as a back row counter-charge unit.

Skyclaws are better though, but I'm in a bit of a bind. I need the Rune Priest to stop psychic powers/cast my own, and I've given him a jump pack to lead the unit (so I can take more Grey Hunters) but he's only toughness four, with two wounds and a 3+ armour save. I can't even give him a storm shield. Thunder hammer to the face is quite painful. I guess I'll have to avoid putting him in those situations.

Ok,so after all your help and playing around with the bits I have my squads. Before this psot I had two 10 man space wolves packs. So I configured them to give me two Grey Hunter packs with a plasma gun in each, and a power fist in each with some bolt guns and bolt pistols. And I made a Wolfgaurd squad with two pairs of lightning claws, a frost axe, two stormbolters and a power fist. The Wolfgaurd squad is of made int he manner that I can give each Grey Hunter pack a Wolfguard leader and then still be able to have a Wolfgaurd pack on the field.

Im done with assembling and painting so Im ready to battle a bit.

My next addition will be an HQ unit, what do you guys think of Rogan Blackmane? And of course a teminator squad wil be next.

I'll like to see this guy, seems interesting. But don't tell Ragnar that somebody nicking part of his name otherwise he mite be a bit upset :D

Generally, the Wolf Claws will be used by Wolf Guard. You have to decide whether you want a badass Wolf Guard leader in your pack, or that second special weapon.

How do most people go on this choice? I have only played a couple games and sicne my GHs are in rhinos or drop pods I have to make a choice. So far I am leaning towards the WG with a powerfist and a combi weapon.
