Thunder Wolf - Mikael Moonrunner with storm shield

3 of 5 done on the Dandys. This guy was fun to paint, I wanted a really ferocious feel to him so used the rearing wolf and crazy mohawk head. Pinning in combination with green stuff seems to be keeping him stable...for now. Again i went for the long hafted weapons so he can actually hit something from the saddle.

Mikael Moonrunner is arrogant and highly competitive, but shows great promise in combining raw ferocity with true martial prowess. It is usually Mikael who begins the wagers before each battle, eager to constantly prove himself. Being the youngest and inducted from a bloodclaw he is often close on the heels of his wolf lord spearing into the enemy lines. Several near fatal charges ensured that he was issued with a storm shield, the wolf priests complaining that if they had to patch him up one more time he would end up a thrall.

Another nice one! I'm envious that you are not using the rod. I may have to re think that. My only nit pick is the hair color. But other than that looks awesome.

I used a blood claw head for mine as well for that wolf. Must be the wilder nature of the wolf's action.

Great work, I especially like the face of the marine - full of character. Another gem to your collection, but I have to admit that with this TW I don't like the shield armour on the front legs. I do like the metallic finishing on it - What do you use?.

Anyway congrats on a fantastic piece :D

Thanks for the positive feedback brothers, overall I am pleased with the Dandy wolves although they do favor a darker heavier style. Some of the armor sections are not 40k/marine/wolf enough.

wolf363839: Eyes are a lucky draw every time, I have had some truly wonky marines in the past. Its a steady hand for starters. I mask the face off so that it doesnt get primed, the less paint on the face the better the detail sticks out and is easier to paint. I base bronzed flesh, then wash ogre flesh wash. This picks out the eyes enough. Then put white in there, unless you are looky it will go everywhere, thats fine. Then dot the pupil with scorched brown and go around the eye with that too. At this point he looks goth or chaotic, so then cover more of the brown up with bronzed flesh. And thats it. Lots of methods but i use that one.

Night Runner: Thanks man! I agree the shields arnt great, if I wasnt so eager to get them on the table I may have done something with them but hay. The silver is just boltgun, badab black wash then mithril silver painted with a fine brush and a steady hand around the edges.

Brother Ramses: Funny you should say that, I have about 6 or 7 marines that look like celebrities. its like Space Wolf the Movie. Ill do a post at some point with them all, I assure you it was not intentional!

Lord Ragnarok: isnt blue a lucky colour? ;) In his last game he certainly had his fair share of it. I guess if your the guy to take las cannons to the face you need every trick right? :P

SImon429: The chain-spears are pretty easy to do. I used fantasy battle spears from the Chaos Marauder Horsemen and SW chainswords. Cut the top of the chainsword off and cut the spear up into 2 sections, then just glue them together. The hard part is ensuring they all line up and you have near perfect cuts. Link to spears I used :

Beef: Feel free to use the chain spear idea, i'm sure there are other ways too with axes and power weapons. I do still want to do more but have currently painted all the ones I have. I tried to convince Mr Dandy to do a few more sculpts but no plans at this time. So when I do get more I will do a blow by blow of the fur. But theres no magic in there, just blend in browns and then let the final badab black wash do the rest. The next 2 wolves (riders almost done) have lighter fur coats with a base of graveyard earth on one and bestial brown on the other.
