matt.k
I am new to 5th edition so i'm trying to wrap my head around this. combat tactic allow me to automaticaly fail or pass any leadership test. Dose that mean for example. my 10 man tactical squad gets assaulted by a squad of plauge marines with an attached commander on the opposing players turn. I lost the combat losing 4 marines to him losing 1 plauge marine. I can choose to fail my leadership test and fall back 2 d6 intches I can then on my turn automaticaly pass my test to regroup move 6 more intches away and then procede to shoot up that plauge marine squad with my whole army? I didn't read that there was any down side to this. as long as the retreating tactical squad is not trapped in by opposing units or impassable terrain they get away scott free? sounds like combat tactics removes most the capability for an enimy to destroy a squad since they have to fail a leadership test when charged to be destroyed and they get to choose to pass or fail that test? am I getting all this right. Basicly unless they are surrounded my more than one unit space marines can detach from combat at will for the most part and allow you to turn around and shoot the crap out of your opponent? this sounds like a major tactic for space marines. Makes me fear those big chaos squads of CC death a little less knowing that I can turn tail at almost no rist then light them the * up I am missing somthingnhere right. EDIT: the initiative check!. the falling back unit is destroyed if it can not beat the opposing players initiative +d6 roll? dose that mean you would only have a 50/50 chance of falling back or being destroyed? EDIT #2 sorry I'm reading I see now that if they fail the fall back initiative test then they just stand and fight and can't attampt the same thing next tur because of no retreat rule. any other equaly cool space maring tactics I need to know about? Brother_Kluft
Your first supposition is incorrect. Combat tactics does NOT allow you to auto PASS morale and pinning. Combat tactics DOES allow you to auto FAIL morale and pinning. There are many threads about the usefulness of Combat Tactics, searchy is your friend.
