Hfran Morkai
Almost finished the planning stages of Hrafn Morkai's Great Company, as witnessed at the sacking of Prospero. However I've come unstuck with my Wolf Lord for much, much larger games. The idea of the force is pretty much pure infantry with perhaps some Land Speeder squadrons, some Bikes, Jump Packs (limited) and some Dreads. Fluffwise my Wolf Lord is along the lines of Erik Morkai, preferring sharp bouts of overwhelming violence when the enemy least expects it (30 Scouts!) so from that viewpoint I'm tempted to go DIY because some of Ragnar's rules wouldn't really fit, such as War Howl and possibly Insane Bravado, but those rules could be incredibly useful in a force with pretty much no armour. Either way the Lord will be accompanied by ten WG in TDA so there's not too much issue with Ragnar's PA. From a modeling perspective my Lord would be armed with a Frost Axe due to it being more subtle than a Frost Blade. What do you think? Counts as Ragnar or my own Lord? Freman Bloodglaive
I'd go with roll-your-own. Ragnar is good, but then your Lord is exactly like every other Ragnar out there. I'm not a big one for using named characters though, maybe others will suggest otherwise. winternight
Make your own IMO. Why is the Frost Axe more subtle than the Frost Blade? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/199955-running-a-slogging-lord/#findComment-2381668 Share on other sites
WolfLord Digby
I was thinking the same.... An Axe is as subtle as a Carnifex with a toothache... Deffo DIY in my opinion. Hfran Morkai
Make your own IMO. Why is the Frost Axe more subtle than the Frost Blade? Because it doesn't sound like a chainsaw as it's about to decapitate that sentry. Yeah, I'm already taking a Njal counts as (for the Inv save mainly) so a homebrew one would be more appropriate, and fun. TiguriusX
Njal inv save?? You mean the upgraded Runic TDA? I would go against the majority opinion so far and use Ragnar. Come up with whatever fluff and equivalents you want on your model (frost axe etc) His rules and abilities provide much more value to a foot slogging army than any custom WL you can roll up. Hfran Morkai
Njal inv save?? You mean the upgraded Runic TDA? Yep, a 4+ is much nicer, along with some other nice rules, even if he is one lot of points. Value-wise I'm saving about ten points on a similarly equipped Lord, without the nifty rules he provides. Ragnar has a 4++ as well from his reflexes. Are you comparing Njal to Ragnar as well as DIY WL? Hfran Morkai
Sorry, my bad tangent time again. I was on about already running a named character counts as, shame the named ones have nifty rules benefiting portions of the army haha Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/199955-running-a-slogging-lord/#findComment-2382139 Share on other sites

The old codex had both frost weapons as being chain weapons that use the diamond sharp fangs of the Ice Kraken as the teeth of the weapon. I see the new codex has a different interpretation. I'd say you could make a frost blade out of the energised diamon just as easily as an axe could be made. Loketh
I wasn't aware that there were exactly any rules that prevented one from using Ragnar's rules with a custom model... I use his rules with a converted up Khosorro Khan (sp?) that has the mohawk marauder horseman head and an Empire General's runefang. Go to town, I say. ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/199955-running-a-slogging-lord/#findComment-2382801 Share on other sites
