Land Speeder Typhoon armament

Does the Typhoon upgrade to a landspeeder replace the standard heavy bolter or does one keep it on as well?

I know that the Typhoon upgrade states that is has an armament consisting of the Typhoon launcher but it does not not state that it replaces anything.

it replaces the mounted weapon, not the gunners weapon. So gunner could still use HB or MM but you could not take an ass can, or Heavy Flamer.

Great, more weapons is never a downside.

I to love the multi melta. it gives you possibility of 3 str 8 shots from 1 LS. Thats 4 instant kills on alot of stuff, including tyranid warriors. MMMMMMM dead warriors.

How do you get 4 instant kills from 3 shots? ;)

I prefer to keep the heavy bolter, and stay at long range.

Yeah that was what I thinking too, seems better to keep them far away out of most harms way since they have such range on the typhoon.

I completely understand the "stay away idea" but in my area, not alot of stuff dies well to HB so i run the melta. i also stay way back till about turn 3 when anti-armor stuff is dead-ish, and things are more scattered, then i move up and use them as coup de grace units on immobilized, or metal box vehicles. "Hmm, Your 180 pt Predator has lost all three cannons and is immobilized right?" "Yeah..." *LST fires 3 shots* *roll 1, 2, 3* "Dead Pred" ;)

Where are you getting it can't take a Heavy Flamer from? The options for a Land Speeder in the Space Wolves codex says:

Any Land Speeder may replace its heavy bolder with:

- Heavy Flamer

- Multi-melta

So you can still have a Typhoon with a Heavy Flamer, just no Assault cannon.

Yeah same.

Ditto.

Heavy Bolter can still Glance AV11 stuff, and pen rear armour, and my Typhoons are never dedi tank-hunters. I face a lot of IG and orks atm, so the frag blast templates come in handy and the extra shots from the Hvy.Bolter mean those couple more wounds.

Was going to ask the same thing. On a related note, it's a shame you can't combine a typhoon and assault cannon - though it would be incredibly expensive, that would be a lot of high S shots coming from one landspeeder.
