nurgling6688
So me and my friends have decided to do a Blood Angel themed force for the Adepticon team tourny next year. 2 of my friends are doing blood angels, 1 of whom is doing a dante sang guard list, another friend is doing the angels encarmine and i chose flesh tearers, cause, well they are brutal as @#*!. My List as of right now is: Seth Honor Guard with chapter banner, blood champ, thunder hammer, and 3 power weapons 10 man assault squad with power weapon and infernus a stormraven and either a librarian dread or a 5 man vanguard squad with 1 extra power weapon. Well i got the parts to make my assault squad and Seth in the mail so i made up a test mini and i am pretty pleased with it. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/flesh.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/flesh2.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/flesh3.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/flesh4.jpg This was my first time trying to put battle damage on a marine, you can't really see it in these pics though. For some reason he looks a lot muddier in these then in person. The last picture is the most liek what he really looks like. comments and crit welcome. After looking at these pics i think im gonna hit the black with one more highlight.
Brother Tancred
Thats an amazing test model and hope the rest of the army turns out that good. Especially like the green gem on the chainsword and gore slattered on it. With your list it's hard to say which would be better, the vanguard with DoA can change games and do so much damage but the dread adds the psychic hood which can block enemy psykers and is very scary with WoS. I'd be tempted with the dread as if it is in a drop pod it comes down turn one and if you have Blood Lance you can land him right in line with some tanks, with the added 35mm on the base will be able to draw a longer line compared to an ordinary librarian. nurgling6688
thank you ;) the matte varnish made him look really dusty <_< time to buy some new matte varnish i guess. As for the list, if i include the dreadnought i do not have the points left over for a drop pod. He was gonna ride shotgun on the storm raven with seth and the honor guard. Luko
Greetings brother, I collect Flesh Tearers too, check my thread out if you like (its in my sig). Your test model looks really good, but i gotta ask how did you achieve the gore effect on your chainsword, i would love a tutorial! Thanks in advance, Luko
terminatorAM
Wow! love your test mini, the only thing i can think of to improve it would be another hightlight layer on the black but you already have that idea so good job. Ive started collecting my own FT army a little while ago but have been waiting to paint them and once im done with my finals next week ill have several months in which to do so. I do love the red though, Is there any way youd let us in own your recipe for that great color? o and is that blood just GW red ink (forgot the real name) applied after the matt primer? nurgling6688
thanks everyone :D well the gore on the chainsword is pretty easy, i came up with it about 5 years ago. Start off with really watered down red gore, so watery its a wash. Paint this on in whatever splatter pattern u want, then mix in brown ink, not the new GW washes but the old GW Brown Ink, i still have a pot of it, if you dont i think there are other companies that make an equivalent. paint this 50/50 mix inside the pattern u painted with the red gore. evantaully u want pure brown ink at the very center/tip (where ever the gore would be thickest). Then wash the whole area with baal red wash. After u matte varnish it hit it with some gloss varnish and your good. As for the red recipe, i actually took the initial idea from someone else on here, i cant remember who, sorry. Start out with a base coat of mecharite red, give it a wash of leviathan purple, then a wash of baal red. Layer red gore on top of this, leaving the previous layer only in the cracks. I then progressively mixed in more vomit brown for the highlights, going almost up to pure vomit brown. Give the whole thing a very even and light wash of leviathan purple to give it that maroony color. Re touch any of the brightest highlights as u see fit and voila. The battle damage is painted on with a mix of scab red, liche purple and chaos black, then the bottom of it is highlighted with the highlight mix from the armor. A small tip, if u highlight ur red with vomit brown like i did, then highlight ur black by mixing in bleached bone. It keeps the model feeling warm and that way u dont get a weird mix of warm and cool. Also try to stick to using warm colors for highlighting any part of them (yellow for green etc.) P.S. i will be taking commissions over the summer starting now, if you are interested PM me. nurgling6688
So its been awhile and im slowly working my way through my 10 man assault squad. The varnish keeps making them look dusty :) i think it is because my apartment is super dusty. Anyway, here are some pictures. This is the second one i finished. I want to give each of my guys a name and short backstory, but i suck at names and i dont really know what are some good Flesh Tearer names. Basing off of Gabriel Seth they seem pretty normal/average modern day names, so any suggestions would be great. This guys i supposed to be the super zealous one of the squad, his worst fear is falling to the Black Rage so he is even more religious then others in the squad. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/purity1.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/purity2.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/purity3.jpg Next up is the Sargent of the squad. He wholly believes in Seth's vision of leading the chapter back from its bad reputation. He wants to see them return to their glory days when they were a close mirror of the Blood Angels. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/fleshsarge1.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/fleshsarge2.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/fleshsarge3.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/fleshsarge4.jpg And here is a group shot of the 3 finished marines so far. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/groupshot1.jpg I have another 3 marines built waiting to get painted. The first one is supposed to be the sarges number 2 and he takes command of the second combat squad when they split, i tried to show his rank by giving him the Inferno pistol as well as giving him more ornate armor. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/unfinished2.jpg This guy here is the squads medic. I know they don't have apothecaries in the squads but after reading Salamander where one of the marines in the squad has a basic knowledge os dressing field wounds it just makes sense, i mean what if the apothecary is to far away? This guy will take care of you, who knows, maybe one day he will become a Sang Priest. To show that he is older and more valued i gave him a suit of Mk 4 armor, i even filed off the trim on the flesh tearer pad so it would match. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/unfinshed3.jpg This last dude is the crazy one. He is pretty close to falling to the Black Rage and is barely kept in check. He is going to get some greenstuff work before being painted, such as a mohawk, maybe some facial hair and some more work on his axe. His armor will also be more damaged then the others and he will be covered in more gore. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/unfinished1.jpg Well comments and criticism are welcome, let me know what you think. nurgling6688
thanks for the replies! I am taking my time with these guys, usaully i paint my units 2-3 models at a time but with this army since it is only going to be 1,000 points i decided to do one model at a time. I also have more stuff waiting to be painted (Death Guard, my Sons of Dorn and an entire fantasy empire army) and with new demons coming out in august we will see how quickly i get these guys done.
