Somar
got the chappy done, tactical marines will be next... maybe one of these days someone will actually comment on these. http://i837.photobucket.com/albums/zz298/dirkspair/blood%20angels/chappy004.jpg http://i837.photobucket.com/albums/zz298/dirkspair/blood%20angels/chappy003.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/200097-ba-army-blog/#findComment-2386815 Share on other sites
Seregon
Looking good. Dig your chaplain; the only thing I might ponder over is the purity seals and his tabard that doesn't really look like conventional writing. Keep up the good work! Asrech
Very clean and crisp, I like them B) Nice use of IG and SoB bits on the Rhino, and the front lettering came out very, very nice. Keep it up! Cheers! Somar
here my first 5 tactical guys. i had a lot of problems with them because i didnt shake the primer enough. so they were all gritty and the washes and inks didnt run right. i also realized why i hated to work with decals. what a PITA. http://i837.photobucket.com/albums/zz298/dirkspair/blood%20angels/tac028.jpg http://i837.photobucket.com/albums/zz298/dirkspair/blood%20angels/tac030.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/200097-ba-army-blog/#findComment-2388281 Share on other sites
Somar
the quality of the tac guys has been bothering me a lot, so i threw the sarge into acetone and will redo him. the other guys i will get back to at some other time. If you painted the flexible joint bits black they'd look a million times better. Seriously its amazing how much better marines look with them done. Also, try on a spare model/bit of plastic the red you've done shaded with a carefully applied 75/25 baal red/badab black wash for depth in the recesses. It looks like the figure on the back left of the last 2 pics has already had similar treatment and he looks far better. Just get some matte varnish spray to finish them if you dont like them shiny. I personally dont like the red boltguns with them but thats a matter of preferance. That's how i'd fix them. Somar
well spotted, the mini on the left was my test mini and it worked out a lot better. the primer was nice and smooth and the wash did what it was supposed to. i tried several washes in the joints of the other guys but the gritty primer just soaked it up not leaving it clearly defined. well, trial and error i guess. edit: doing the whole squad over :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/200097-ba-army-blog/#findComment-2388744 Share on other sites
Edemia
Did you use The Army Painters red primer by chance, or one similar to it, or did you use a black primer? Freakiq
Looks like you held the nozzle too far away when spraying. The paint dried in the air before it hit your models, giving them a rough texture. Here's a helpful tutorial: Link Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/200097-ba-army-blog/#findComment-2389315 Share on other sites

Somar
okay, i redid the sarge, he is better then before, but still not perfect. the other ones are almost done too and i will keep them like this and start fresh with a new unit. wasted enough time on those. http://i837.photobucket.com/albums/zz298/dirkspair/blood%20angels/stuff017.jpg http://i837.photobucket.com/albums/zz298/dirkspair/blood%20angels/stuff023.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/200097-ba-army-blog/#findComment-2389638 Share on other sites
Rizara
That sarge has always been one of my favorite models. I really love the ancient look of his army, i just wished he didn't have that big nasty two handed mace behind his back. Luckily I will still have one of them in my BA army as well..but converted to be a company champion for my honor guard unit. I got a fully conveted honor guard(command squad) that is made up entirely of all veteran models. So all metal models, lots of MK1 vet models, converted to have a standard bearer, apothecary and company champion. Anyways great progress on your army so far. I really enjoy that chaplain model of yours, he looks so mean looking like he's about to put his crozius where it don't belong on some nasty traitor or xenos filth. Somar
i kit bashed my mephiston, legs are the dark angel robed ones, torso, shoulder pads and arms from the sanguinary guard box, head from the death company box, skulls from the empire flagellants box and back pack from an old legion of the damned sergeant.
