The rusty blade recipe is very simple:

- paint the whole blade Scorched Brown

- stipple it with Blazing Orange in irregular blobs

- (optional) give it a Devlan Mud wash

- stipple sparingly with Boltgun Metal, leaving plenty of the previous layer showing

- (optional) stipple the metal patches with Catachan Green

awesome work !

will you make som pluge marines too?

I've already got about 25 PMs in my army, although they were made a long time ago before I settled on the current 'look'. I'll be building some more soon though; here is one that's ready to paint:

More paint! This time the converted Plague Marine and a winged Daemon Prince I've been working on......

I can't believe i missed this!

This is phenominal work  I love beige deathguard.

A lot of the time nurgle conversions end up being too muddled, but your modelling and painting make your models a (deliberate) mess, but also show how much control you have over your skills, a wonderful balance that not many manage to get. Congratulations, and will be watching closely

The plague returns....

I've been on a hiatus to finish a dissertation, but that's handed in now so I've finally been able to have a proper hobby session! Over the last couple of months I've been gathering ideas and components, and doing a bit of prep work here and there.

Firstly, here is a selection of single miniatures that I'll be painting up soon:

The head of an old Chaos sorcerer seems to suit the Typhus model nicely:

And if you were wondering what I did with the remnants of the Wind Globadier, he donated his hand to a cool little Tzeentch character in progress:

But the main thing I've been doing today is building the first member of an Obliterator squad. They will all be featuring Devastator weaponry. Here is the plasma cannon guy... still very WIP:

All comments and suggestions very welcome ;)

Wow! You've really mixed up those sets to breath new life into them, top job fella.

Some C&C and questions: I'm thinking about doing a blood effect, and would love to hear how you use the water effect. Your termie lord needs his eyes painting, there's no focal point on the model otherwise. Also, it may be worth using a really bright orange or blue sparingly throughout all your minis for a tad bit more pop

Stella work.

Thanks very much for the feedback! I think you're right actually, I couldn't work out why the Lord's face looked bland, but giving him proper eyes may be the answer. Interesting comment about the orange or blue as well, I'll definitely bear that in mind. I will be painting the obliterator's plasma cannon tubing in blue so that'll be a good test.

Speaking of which, obliterator two is ready to unleash...

There are a couple of things still to do but I'm really pleased with this guy. His left shoulder pad is meant to look like the mutations have burst it away, hence the wires. My favourite feature is the tube going into his right shoulder - this is some sort of engine bit from an Ork biker! Also quite pleased with the multi melta, as that is actually a right-armed devastator weapon so I had to cut the wires from the shoulder pad and bend them the other way.

As with the first obliterator, I've raised the pose up because the GW models are ridiculously over-leany.

I've also given number 1 a bit more of a belly:

I currently have one more oblit body to use, but ideally I'd like to have at least 4. They're so fun to make, I might end up with a whole army of the buggers!

Obliterator 3 so far...

Yes, I know Oblits can't fire heavy bolters, but it looks cool! More Orky engine bits used on this one, plus an old Hive Tyrant sword (I think) as some sort of claw. I still feel he's kind of missing something, perhaps I'll put some guitar string coming out of the top of his armour or something.

Something I've altered on all of them is their thighs - I couldn't work out what was bugging me about the sculpts (apart from the crap pose and the crap 'mutated' texturing), then I realised that their legs are far too thin where they connect with the hips, making them look top heavy. It was a simple job to bulk them up with GS but I think it's helped a lot. Here's the other two:

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i211/ashbeyj/All%20Shall%20Rot/100_2354.jpg

I still plan to bulk up the mutated arms in places and add more veins to the weapons, but unfortunately I've run out of green stuff, so I'll have to get a bit of painting done while the next batch is in the post.
