Black Legion WIP (Call of Chaos IV)

Recommended Posts

First post on this one, but I've pledged to do the following:

2 Units of CSMs (10 figs each)

1 Unit of Bezerkers (8 figs)

1 Unit of Havocs (5 figs)

1 Unit of Raptors (5/6 Figs)

Just to make it interesting I need to get all five squads done by the month end before I ship out for Canada! I have the month off, but I have loads of packing up to do - Lots of early starts then! :cuss

Today's progress was to make a good start on the Havocs, 1 guy almost done, another about 40% and the rest of the squad undercoated (they are partially assembled). I also stuck th legs for one of the CSM squads to bases to speed me up later.

Almost done, need to paint the base.

I relaised how poor the photos looked first time, so I've gone abck and retaken them. I struggle with photos as my normal lighting rig is half packed so I have to make do with household bulbs. :D

one more shot:

Not too much time for modelling today but:

5th man of the Havoc squad, needs base finishing but he's got a nice battered look.

First man of my first CSM squad WIP.

Few more CSMs progressed today: (all of these have been worked on more since the photos were taken so there's more for tomorrow)

Fluff Squad Leader guy - no effect in game

Juts a little update, the first CSM Squad is pretty much done, the Aspiring Champion needs his base doing and then they all need a touch of Dullcote but that's it. I've assembled the second squad today, so hopefully I'll get through these pretty quickly.

Something from squad 2:

thanks, nothing like a tight deadline to make me busy! I tried some sepia at your suggestion, but wasn't really happy with the colouring. That said using my ghetto wash (black paint and Future floor polish ) has really sharpened up the metallics - wierd really black wash on black figures.

No photos of those figures now washed, Dullcoted and packed but some of my Bezerkers' Rhino. Had to order 2 more Rhino's today to avoid paying the extra £2 each that GW will be charging in 3 weeks. Those I will just spray black, desprue them and finish them when I'm in Canada.

Photos are a touch washed out and don't show the subtle hi-lighting. ;)

Nightrunner - thanks - he's a very *nice* Spacemarine! ;) Actually it's a bit of a problem that the CSM sprues have so few decent left arms.

Matt - do you see lines, which models? I spent ages scraping the blighters off, but the drybrushing picks up the vestiges of them.

:P

Did a bit more on the Rhino today, but nothing worth photographing - lots of red! :P

Started on my Skull Champion, he's an optional upgrade for my squad since without him I hit 998 points which is right where I want to be to get some games in.

If I do see molding lines, they seem to be on the inside of the lower leg casing. Might just be a trick of the light, but I'm sure I saw a few.

Either way, your painting is great and I can't find anything to fault you on. Can I get your red recipe? I'm working on some Khorne boyz now

I probably missed a few, still I'm more of a gamer than a modeller so as long as they look ok at distance on the table I can sleep easy! :Troops:

As for the red, it's nothing special, just the GW paint they suggest for the Bezerkers (forget the name, will check when I go back upstairs) painted over a skull white spray undercoat, and then washed with my Special Wash (Future floor polish + black paint).

PS I'm up at 1:30AM as I've been killing myself on the second squad of CSMs, I hope to have them painted, but not based by this time tomorrow. :Elite:

  • 4 weeks later...

Sorry for the delay, things became manic with packing up to leave, and in the event there wasn't room for my CSMs <_< so they had to go into storage - dammit. Obviously that means no more updates for which I apologise, I gave it my best shot but just ran out of time.

Anyway here are the shots I managed before I left:
