Retributis
Just a thought, but if you were looking for markings or such to add a bit of detail you could always put kill markings on their shoulders or where ever? Could individualise them for each character. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/200198-iron-gods-pirates/page/2/#findComment-2424951 Share on other sites
faol
Superb story and painting love all the detail  will there be any vehicles in the future? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/200198-iron-gods-pirates/page/2/#findComment-2425919 Share on other sites
Lysimachus
Thanks for the comments everyone, and some really good suggestions on the markings issue, still thinking about it.... Kill markings is a definate possibility, thanks Retributis! @faol: Cheers! and yep, vehicles are planned, got a 2,000 pt list worked out with a LR, a Rhino, 3 DP, a Dread (in one of the pods) and 2 MM/HF LS. Actually, hoping* that my next mini's will be the Rhino and the LRC (which will be painted as the 'Iron Beast', Talek Varn's personal transport descibed in the IT article) so I can mech-up my forces so far. * wedding anniversary coming up and my lovely wife has the 'wish list' I left lying around for her to find! :) anyway another little update, as part of the Iron Gauntlet third challenge, here's Brother Degier, one of the most recent additions (in-fluff) to the Iron Gods: http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/Degier1.jpg In Brother Degier's former Chapter, few things were as hated as the uncanny powers of the psyker and the witch. Degier's self-imposed exile led him across dozens of worlds, vilified by frightened Imperial citizens and pursued by fanatical witch hunters. Talek Varn found Degier in a slum tavern deep in one of the Hives of Armis, attempting to overcome his enhanced constitution with massive amounts of the local rotgut. The Iron Gods leader spoke to the troubled psyker and helped him find peace within himself and with his strange new abilities, and gave him new equipment, a new home, and a new purpose in life. Though Degier has since had little or no formal training in his new role as Varn’s personal sorcerer, his inexperience is more than compensated for by his raw, unadulterated power. Lysimachus
double post sad face: :P anyway, here's another update, my next squad some more GH counts-as: http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/SquadB.jpg pic's not come out great so some close-ups too: http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/2-2.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/2-3.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/2-1.jpg and the squad leader, Brother Sargas: http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/Sargas.jpg Given his physical appearance, one might assume Brother Sargas’ moniker ‘the Lucky’ to be a cruel joke among the cynical Iron Gods. However, he has in fact been extremely fortunate, surviving combats against several of the most fearsome foes imaginable, even though it has cost him dearly. An Ork Warboss took his leg, a brood of Genestealers his eye and hand. Nonetheless, Sargas has endured and, although not inducted into Varn’s personal retinue, has become something of a lucky charm to his fellow renegades. C+C always welcome and thanks for looking! Ace Debonair
Very cool! I'm especially impressed with the bayonet on the bolter - if I don't steal that idea within a month it'll only be because I'm running out of stuff to paint. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/200198-iron-gods-pirates/page/2/#findComment-2463667 Share on other sites
Flak
I always had a suspicion that chaos marine bits would work well for a gritty looking chapter. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/200198-iron-gods-pirates/page/2/#findComment-2463934 Share on other sites

Lysimachus
Thanks very much for comments guys! Just a small update tonight, not technically finished models but the interiors are complete so... anyway, just to show this thread isn't totally dead! ;) http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/RhinoInt.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/LRCint1.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/LRCint2.jpg C+C always welcome! tiny sam
I realy like the field chapel! awesome idea! my only point would be the inside of the rihno look better than the outside... :P Good job continue like that! Vissah
I really like this army. There is something in simple colourschemes that I like, mine models are also simple but it loooks striking when they are all on the table. Keep them comin ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/200198-iron-gods-pirates/page/2/#findComment-2524950 Share on other sites

Lysimachus
Thanks guys, comments are really keeping me going with this! @tiny sam: my only point would be the inside of the rihno look better than the outside... ;) lol, I'll get straight to work on that! Vissah, Mr.M: Thanks, yep, I'm a big fan of simple schemes, I reckon the more squads/models you add in, the better and more cohesive the army looks! Aaannywhooo..... Here's the latest update, Talek Varn's heavy weapon squad (c-as Long Fangs obviously): http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/LF.jpg and, as usual, a few close ups: Missile Launchers http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/LF1.jpg Heavy Bolters http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/LF2.jpg and their leader, Brother Aximus: http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/Aximus.jpg Boastful, brash and belligerent, ‘Captain’ Aximus insists that in his former life he served as the commander of his Chapter’s 9th Company. While many of the Iron Gods suspect that this is just another of his ‘exaggerations’, there is no question that Aximus does have a talent for co-ordinating and directing heavy weapons fire. Because of his skills, Talek Varn has thus far been willing to put up with Aximus’ pompous attitude, though this is of scant comfort to those renegades placed under his direct command. C+C always welcome! cheers Lysimachus Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/200198-iron-gods-pirates/page/2/#findComment-2533135 Share on other sites

Lysimachus
Thanks Ydalir! very quick update, finished the rhino. Intended to be the ride for Sargas' squad but until I get a drop pod, it'll probably carry Ghoran's instead: http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/Rhino1.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/Rhino2.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/rhino3.jpg C+C always wanted, thanks for looking! Lysimachus
Thanks very much guys! What's up next? This :P : Talek Varn's personal transport, the 'Iron Beast' http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/LRC1.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/LRC2.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/LRC3.jpg plus a couple of close ups on the gunner, can't really see him in the main pics: http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/LRC5.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/LRC4.jpg Interior can be seen a few posts back, unfortunately ran into one or two problems while assembling it and to cut a long story short, the front ramp got glued and all the effort of painting the inside was a total waste of time! :( Never mind, at least I got a pic or two before that! Captain Juan Juarez
Could I perchance borrow a small amount of your blood? Lysimachus
Thanks for all the comments guys! Answers: Just read your IT-very good, what codex do you use for them? Space Wolves, I figured the character-driven, non codex style seemed suited to a band of pirates! Looking good, though a bit more exterior detail would be cool (some freehand symbols, etc..) Mmm, fair point and it's something I've been wondering about for a while whether they all (tanks and infantry) need a bit more. The problem is that in the IT I've stated that they deliberately avoid wearing too much in the way of identifying insignia? I think what I'm going to do is try and get the army finished then go back and see if I think they look ok as a whole or they need more. Ooooh where did you get this guys head from?? Pretty sure it was in the plastic TDA Wolf Guard. and finally: Could I perchance borrow a small amount of your blood? It's not a crazy experiment to distill brilliance from bodily fluids or anything.. Honest.. Umm, no. ;) ;) Thanks again everyone! Argon
That's a crazy good looking Land Raider there. I like it. So much, in fact, that if we ever meet I might be overcome with a temporary case of kleptomania.... ;) Aximus, though.... He's well painted, but the white hair combined with that mustache make me think of an American Civil War general, or maybe even Colonel Sanders. I'm pretty sure it's just me, though.
