Lysimachus
Thanks belisarius! Hello all! Feels like it's been ages but here's an update, the second of my MM/HF Land Speeders and a little bit more fluff about their 'squadron leader': http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/LS2-1.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/LS2-2.jpg and a little close up of the leader, Brother DeSchultz: http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/LS2-3.jpg Wildly irreverent and cheerfully insane, Brother DeSchultz is nevertheless widely accepted as the best Speeder pilot in four Sectors. Rescued by Talek Varn from the convent of the Ordo Hospitaller where his former brethren had temporarily confined him, DeSchultz now leads the despot’s small coterie of anti-grav units into battle, howling with mad glee as he does so. The source of inspiration for this guy's fluff came when I was choosing a head to use for him, hopefully its origin is recognizable (and semi-amusing) without being too cringe-worthily obvious! -_- C+C always welcome! yodaid764
How did you get your grey and red colors? I am developing my own DIY chapter and I was going for pretty much this scheme. I think I want my grey a bit darker but the red is spot on. Any advice would be appreciated. Lysimachus
Thanks guys! @CMID: Yay, someone noticed the melta conversion! :) @yoda: Sure, it's: Grey Adeptus Battle-Grey Foundation Devlan Mud wash Broad highlight of 50/50 Chaos Black/Codex Grey (doesn't matter if it's a bit rough as the armour is meant to look a little patchy) Final exposed edge highlight of pure Codex Grey Red If memory serves correctly the base colour is a mix of about 2/3 Scab Red/Liche Purple Devlan Mud wash (this goes over the whole mini, armour, metals, flesh, everything!) Broad highlight of the mid Red colour (Red Gore I think, I can never remember the GW colour names) Final exposed edge highlight of Blood Red @Wolffan: Thanks, that's exactly what I was going for to tie in with his fluff. No-one's mentioned the source of inspiration so maybe it's not quite as obvious as I thought! :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/200198-iron-gods-pirates/page/4/#findComment-2775818 Share on other sites

Lysimachus
:P Thanks guys! Very quick update today, finished the second Drop Pod, this one will carry Ghoran's squad into battle: http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/dp2-1.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/dp2-2.jpg Nearly there now, just one more dp for Rasius' squad, not got one yet but scouring ebay as I type! Once that's done, not sure where I'm gonna go next. Thinking about doing something different, possibly a small (1k) force of SoB if the new plastics are nice? If so, gonna paint them up as a DIY Order Minoris, from a small convent on the borders of the Solios Nebula, sometime opponents and occasional unwilling allies (3k pts of mini's? Apocalypse, you say...?) of the despotic Talek Varn! Lysimachus
Sorry, not a proper update, but had to tell some people who might actually appreciate it: got a BNIB Drop Pod on ebay for £14.50 inc. postage! The 40k Hobbiest
If I may ask, I have a simple question for you. If it's a renegade army, why do I still see aquillas all over them? Other than that, however, your models look fantastic. Good color scheme and good use of bits. I like them! Lysimachus
Thanks very much! As to the Aquillas, if you look carefully, you'll see that they're all damaged or defaced in some way, chipped or scratched, etc. I did it deliberately as I liked the idea fluffwise plus colourwise the bone acts as a nice contrast to the grey/red. Lysimachus
Well, after more than a years worth of work... ARMY COMPLETE!!!! Finished the last Drop Pod last night to bring me up to 2k, won't bore anyone with single pics of it but have got everything out for some quick army shots! I've broken everything down into three sections so I can get (slightly) better pics: HQs and vehicle based squads: http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/army1.jpg Drop Pod force: http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/army2.jpg and support units: http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Iron%20Gods/army3.jpg C+C very welcome and thanks to everyone who's posted throughout this log, it's really helped keep me going! Lysimachus
Hello all, Well, it's with a slightly heavy heart that I've come to the realization that I can't afford to have this army sitting in my cupboard gathering dust. There are other projects that I'd like to move on with, but need the capital to get started, not to mention that there are all the usual bills to pay that we all have! I love the Iron Gods, their fluff is my personal favourite I've ever written and I thoroughly enjoyed building up the force, creating all of the different characters and including various other peoples DIY's in it. But unfortunately in the current climate I can't afford to have them just sitting there, which they have been for over a year. Anyway, without getting too melancholy over it, my real purpose in posting was to round it off properly and that I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone who's commented or provided inspiration while I've been working on these guys, it made a huge difference in keeping me motivated and helped build the biggest complete army I've ever made, so many thanks to the Fraters of the B+C!
