Jack-hammer
I ran into this situation while playing a game and would like to know how everyone plays it. If Njal is in combat how does Lord of Tempests work? Q:The query is that Njal needs line of sight to the targets of the Lord of Tempests, so if he is in combat how do you play this? Does he have true line of sight from the combat (this get messy when he is in the center of a big mob of guardians)? Cheers for you help, Hammer Time. Lord of Tempests effects just happen; they aren't psychic powers, and it doesn't matter if Njal is in combat or not (and they also do not require any LOS). DV8
Actually, quoting Codex: Space Wolves, page 53: Lord of Tempests ...Only enemy models in Njal's line of sight can be affected by the tempest's effects. This is a very grey area, as the Tempest is not a shooting attack, and thus not bound by the typical shooting rules. So being locked in combat per se (to me, at any rate) does not negate direct LoS. That is to say, if Njal has direct LoS to an enemy unit even if engaged in combat, I would say that yes, his Tempest can affect them. Of course, once Njal's surrounded he no longer has LoS to anything save the unit(s) he's locked in combat with (unless it's being surrounded by swarms or models much smaller than him, like Grots). EDIT: Think of it this way. Line of Sight will happen regardless of any other rule. Even if engaged in combat he can see an enemy unit(s) (that is to say, the units he's engaged with). It is the other rules that stipulate further caveats that limit your targets (i.e. the shooters must be in range, you cannot target an enemy unit(s) locked in combat, etc.). Jack-hammer
That sounds like the most common sense reading DV8. I like it. Cheers. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/200294-lord-of-tempests-on-combat/#findComment-2386757 Share on other sites
winternight
The only thing that I would add is, Njal has LOS to whatever the model can "see" from it's head as per the normal LOS rules.
