Puddle
Hey guys. I'm starting up Blood Angels, but with a twist. my army is entirely Robed Assault Marines. I'd written a list that im completely happy with, and then worked on a paint scheme. I came up with one, but afterwards, it stuck me that i had reproduced a Soul Drinkers marine, with robes. here it is: http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/7498/spacemarineca1a9wjn.jpg Now, after some discussion with some people, they were telling me that i may as well do Soul Drinkers. I went on Lexicanum to have a read through the basics, and it says they neither serve Chaos, or the Emperor. this seems pretty cool. It would also explain the 'Red Thirst' rule. any foe they face either serve Chaos, the Emperor or are Xenos - therefore they has NERD RAGE!! As for my army list, i'm not sure on how reflective my army is of Soul Drinkers.. but their battle style is perfect (and paint scheme :P) Lexicanum says "Specialty: Boarding and droppod actions; assault-oriented; close range firefights" Here is my list, please let me know if you think its too 'Blood Angel-y' for Soul Drinkers, or if i should stay away, make changes, change the scheme, etc. Astorath (220) Priest (90) - Jump pack, Power Weapon Librarian Dreadnought (190) - Wings of Sanguinius, Might of Heroes - Blood Fist/Storm Bolter, Force Weapon, Extra Armour Furioso Dreadnought (175) - Blood Talons, Meltagun/Storm Bolter, Extra Armour - Drop Pod 5x Scouts (100) - Missile Launcher, 4x Snipers, Camo Cloaks 10x Assault Marines (240) - Thunderhammer, 2 Meltaguns 10x Assault Marines (240) - Thunderhammer, 2 Meltaguns 10x Assault Marines (230) - Thunder Hammer, 2 Flamers Baal Predator (130) - Flamestorm Cannon, Extra Armour Baal Predator (135) - Flamestorm Cannon, Dozer Blade, Extra Armour 1750 i want to know your thoughts. antique_nova
Are you representing current Soul Drinkers, before they were imprisoned.
Plague Angel
Here is my list, please let me know if you think its too 'Blood Angel-y' for Soul Drinkers, or if i should stay away, make changes, change the scheme, etc. (Blood Angels special character) (Blood Angels unique character) (Blood Angels-only special vehicles) (Blood Angels troops choices) (Scouts) Um... Well hey, I'll just say this: have you read the Soul Drinkers series? It doesn't sound like you have. So playing a Soul Drinkers army would be a lot like someone who played a Blood Ravens army but never played Dawn of War. You're basically playing the heroes of a book series you've never read, and I can't see the appeal—especially since fans of the books would be bothered when you don't play them the way they're represented. I say just go with your purple scheme and come up with your own name; no need to try and link yourself with a Black Library chapter just because your paint reminded some friends of them (especially when the links are tenuous at best.) obs0l3te
You really need to read the books before you do this... it doesn't fit at all... maybe before they left the Imperials...?
Puddle
nope, not read the books, nor knew the background until tonight really. still not much idea about them, so thought i'd best ask. it seems like a stretch to get Soul Drinkers out of a BA list like mine, but hey. i built the army first, then drew a parallel from my scheme ideas. i'm getting shot down a bit here, looks like it will fall through :/
Plague Angel
Don't feel bad. You have a good list, a good plan, and a good looking scheme that you came up with all on your own! Just play them as you planned and don't worry about whether you are playing like the heroes of a novel or not. ;) You can safely ignore the Soul Drinkers series and just live your life and play your army happily. Burningblood
Well there really aren't decent enough rules to field a Soul Drinkers chapter. They're no longer a codex chapter... but they're not exactly the Black Templars or space wolves either. Also, they do see themselves as true servants of the Emperor- just not the Imperium. Red Fury
Soul Drinkers? Nah, they look more like the Pretty Marines to me, who are actually rumored to be a BA successor. http://1d4chan.org/images/thumb/c/c7/Pretty_army.jpg/800px-Pretty_army.jpg -Fury
Astorath the Grim
Also, your using blood angel specific units that only we have...namely the furioso dreads, Astorath, and the baal preds...3 things that the soul drinkers do not have.

Haunter!
But the Pretty Marines are one hundred times cooler than the Soul Drinkers! You list is solid, and your scheme is neat. Just ignore the Soul Drinkers' existence. Everyone else does.

I like their scheme and their iconography (though not the name itself, but still... the smoking cup is awesome). But they just don't interest me at all. Jorre
I'd read the books first if I was you.. I wasn't a real fan of the series, it might change your mind knowing a bit more about them
antique_nova
The last 3 books aren't very good. Poorly done. If you read the books, it says that the Soul Drinkers are the successors of the Imperial Fist Legion/chapter. Hence their sacred artifact. The Soulspear which is a weapon of Dorns - this is the item that the entire series is based around. thanks antique_nova
Captain Juan Juarez
Just ignore the Soul Drinkers' existence. Everyone else does. This, ad infinitum! The Soul Drinkers are a travesty that should ne'er have seen the light of the Golden Throne.
Pcm979
I liked the first book, but once it turned into the "Sarpedon Makes Really Bad Decisions Show" I had to put the Omnibus down. It's a crying shame, because it's the only series about a renegade-but-still-loyal Chapter in existence.

Malus the Destroyer
While not a huge fan of the chapter, for alot of the reasons previously listed, the chapter master himself has a LOT of good modeling opertunities.
