Grimfoe
Hey guys, I was hoping you could help out with selection of magnets. I want to buy some rare earth magnets so I can swap out torsos on my Thunderwolf squad. I'm not sure if I want Storm shields on the squad, and I think I may want to use magnets so I can switch them for different circumstances. I also think it will help with transport. I'm also ordering the FW Ven dread and I would like to magnetize the weapons. What size magnets should I select? How do I fasten each end of the magnet? I'm concerned that the pulling power of the magnet may prove too much for the super glue over time. Thanks. Emperor's Scourge
Size...not sure to be honest. 1/4" x 1/16" isn't a bad way to go. As for attaching...drill out an indentation and then use green stuff to seal it in or green stuff then super glue it to the green stuff. Thats if you want to be super sure it'll stay. To be honest I've done okay with just super gluing them straight to the plastic. If you let it dry long enough before testing it with the other magnet it should be fine. Make sure you mark the proper sides with a marker so you don't end up with polar opposites. Silverwolf
I've had no problems yet with magnets pulling away from the model, however one way to completely prevent this is acctually drill a hole deeper then the model is thick, then GS over the magnet. It's powerful enough to work through the layer of GS, and when you pull the parts away from each other, the magnet isn't visible ;). The ones I bought last were about 2mm thick and 4mm across (round). I think that is about as small as you can go. Assuming the part is large enough, I like to drill a hole into the area where I want the magnet, then seat the magnet inside the hole with super glue. Then rough up the edges around the hole, and GS over it with a thin layer. Once the GS sets, file it back level with the top of the hole. With SM Torsos, you can sit the magnets INSIDE the torso as you glue it together, then drill into the shoulders of the arms you want to stick on. Even those small magnets are dam strong, and for larger pieces you can always use more then one with some spacing between them. Biggest thing is making sure you have the magnets facing the right way ^_^. The first ones can be put in any way you want, but make sure when gluing the other side of the pair that it's facing the right way :o (Got a bit careless with it once... wasn't fun to fix lol) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/200490-magnet-help/#findComment-2388126 Share on other sites
