Commander Dante

Mkay I do like the fluff about Dante being the oldest living space marine to date and getting bored of everything but what gets me are his rules.

Now Dante is the Chapter Master all other Chapter Masters look to, even Tu'Shan and Calgar defer leadership to him when he is around, and it sounds nit picky but why couldn't we have something to show this on the table top. Granted it is fun having him with hit and run and no scatter deep strike but call me a fluff nazi but I would of preffered him having something like Rites of Battle or an upgraded God of War rule that Calgar has.

Anyone else thought this or not even caring lol

Also, is there anyone in the world who doesn't think he should've had Eternal Warrior? Apart from Ward, of course.

Raises hand. I think Eternal Warrior is getting handed out too often now and should be extremely limited. I'm hoping the next few codexes don't include it.

If any BA should have it, its Mephiston.

I disagree. If anyone should have it it's Dante. He is the Form of "Eternal Warrior" in fluff and game. But I do agree that it's been handed out a bit much. Yet, if Lysander (really?!) can get it then Mephiston should have as well.

What bothers me is that EW can be purchased in the SW Codex. That was just begging to be burned out.

Mephy? The guy who got trapped under rubble for a week? You do realise that by that standard there are a group of chinese miners who are immune to Instant Death?

Also, I disagree with being stingy with Eternal Warrior because it's been used poorly before. That's making new armies suffer for the mistakes of old ones, and decreasing their competitiveness to boot.

See, personally I don't think any space marine/chaos space marine should have eternal warrior, with the exceptions of Mephiston and Abaddon. I don't think Lysander should have it or Calgar, or any Space wolf.

True but that is at least limited :) At least he's not going to take a Las to the face and turn to ash .. he doesn't have EW but does have a limited chance to be instant killed and is harder to wound. I'm fine with him not having EW .. I'd rather have an Iron Halo ;)

But for Dante .. he is the Eternal Warrior .. so it would really only make sense. To me at least

^^

x2, more or less.

Eternal Warrior on Mephiston would be extremely over kill considering his high Toughness so nothing can really instant kill him unless it is a special item, the reason he may of not got it was to give the oponent a chance to actually kill him.

Dante on the other hand not having it is another matter though, it maybe because he is supposed to be used in quick assaults and not drawn out slug fests, Hit and Run is a stand in for it in my opinion.

personally I thought 40k needed a rule like EW since 3rd, these BIG characters like calgar need this rule not only to be more fluffy ( I remember reading a story back in 3rd about calgar going toe-to-toe with a carnifex and winnig without suffereing much dmage, yet in 3rd the carnifex flicked him before he even got an attack, and he died)

I dont think that Mephy or Dante should have EW

Mephy is 'HARD' enough without it, Dante on the other hand is getting on a bit, although he is not frail and weak, he probably does take some time to heal from his wounds.....

Maybe Dante had, between his 600th and 1050th year as Chapter Master, Eternal Warrior.

Now, however, he's getting tired. He's planning on retiring to that little sanctum he saw last month. He's laying down the EW flag and accepting his mortality with a grim stoicism.

Insult form: Dante's so old he's out-aged Eternity!

Losing Fearless in 5th is actually a boon in my opinion, as No Retreat! is pretty awful, and Fearless would actually contradict his Hit and Run rule (at least in a thematic sense, if not gameplay wise). As far as the chapter master not having Eternal Warrior, I'm on the side of the fence that says this rule got over-handed out in this edition (in general), and the backlash from that is armies like 'Nids getting it mostly removed.

Then I suggest the new special rules: 'I'm Too Old For This' and 'Get Off My Lawn'.

Exactly what I was thinking. His entry even says that he feels he's lived too long and is just waiting for his final battle. Eternal Warrior would contradict his flavor a bit.

Like the "Seen It All" rule from the fan-dex? That one was great.

I agree. Eternal is defined as: without beginning or end; lasting forever; always existing; perpetual; ceaseless; endless. Fluff-wise, by that definition I don't think it covers Dante or any other Space Marine. If anything Dante should have a rule like Mega-Ultra-Super-Experienced Warrior.

Its hard to complain about not getting Eternal Warrior when Khârn gets ID'd by a power-fist. I mean, HE is the Eternal warrior.

Not just for hitting things with an axe for ~10,100 years, but because he really did die and was raised from the dead by Khorne. For the sole purpose of continuing to hit things with his axe.

When Khârn gets it, I'll feel better about being annoyed Meph and Dante don't.

The pardon from the whichy-who?

There was a rumor going about before the actual release that Dante would have a rule that allowed you to contest for outflanking. If you won, your opponent would have to bring his reserves in from his standard deployment zone.

It was worded as if Dante had seen so many different tactics in his day that he couldn't be out-smarted like that and had prepared for every type of problem the whipper-snappers could throw at him.
