Terminator companies

Recommended Posts

I was wondering on some things, so I might just ask all of you ;)

Are all Terminator companies named ?

If there even were entire companies made of terminators..

For example :

- sons of horus/luna wolves they are named the Justaerin

- Night lords, after reading Soul Hunter; it seems they are named Atrementar (I probably spelled this totally wrong)

- Iron hands : Morlocks

Or are these names not only for the terminators, altough they would be the most experienced forces in the legion.

Terminators aren't really named anymore it seems after the heresy, so I posted this in the heresy forum

The Scarab Occult seem to be the name of the Thousands Sons veteren first company. Though I recall another Egyptian-sounding word for Magnus's actual honor guard. I know each Primarch seemed to have named honor guard though if they were of the 1st company and wore TDA, I do not know. Deathguard had the Deathshroud for instance.

Whether every member of the 1st company of a chapter during the Heresey wore TDA, I can not say either.

Some chapters do still have names for their 1st Company, namely Sword Brethren of the Black Templars, Wolf Guard of the Space Wolves and Deathwing for the Dark Angels. Obvously only the last example is a company full of TDA. And the former two aren't exactly companies per in the Codex sense.

It looks like most/all chapters name all of their companies - DA certainly have death and ravenwings tho I didnt bother getting their codex so not sure if any others are specifically named, BA have named companies 1 thru 10, as do Ultras. SW great companies are also individualy named, and I suspect that they do have numbers also (tho the wolves probably dont bother using them). The names vary, and a re probably chapter specific/relate to certain acts carried out by that company.

Also, dont forget that terminator squads might not neccessarily have all been members of their primarchs bodyguards, and the bodyguard units would have had their own name as well (eg the Morlocks were named so because they were his bodyguard, not because they were terminators)

Military units acquire nicknames. Some of them are more formal than others. For example, the british army Household Cavalry, also variously Life Guards, Blues and Royals, and their Line numbers (off the top of my head). why should it not be as simple as that?

The Grenadier Guards, the Coldstream Guards, etc... A non-official official name, related to an event in the units history.

So the Imperial Fists current first compnay might be called the Cage Breakers, named after the first company imediatley after the Iron Cage incident, who have been so named ever since...

I wonder how big the temrinator squads where back then.. (thinking codex wise)

Given typical GW view of the Heresy they were probably "Great Squads" of 200 men.

Personally I liked the fluff from RT which had post-heresy chaos squads always possess a number of marines equal to the gods sacred number, except for Chaos Terminator squads which always retained their pre-heresy strength of 5 men as a symbol of their eliteness.
