Grey Knight StormRaven Gunship

Big mistake here, but I'm assuming that the consensus is that Grey Knights will receive the StormRaven in their new 'dex. If we take this as fact, then must we assume that jump infantry are coming as well? The only basis that I have for this line of reasoning is that the StormRaven is the ONLY transport able to transport jump pack equipped infantry.

I realize that there are major assumptions occurring in my logic, but what does the B&C think?

I believe the THawk can transport Jump Troops.

Why than would the Grey Knights get a jump infantry transport?

The ability to carry jump infantry is only a small part of the stormraven's capabilities, and not really one of its better ones IMO since jump infantry takes up an extra transport slot like terminators.

I agree, a flying assault transport that could carry 12 models and a Dred, would be amazing!!! The thing is, it is a transport that MAY transport jump infantry, and a Dred. The implication of a FOC restructure, Dreds going to elite, is there as well.

This is all pure speculation. Food for thought, if you will. Is my logic way off base, or do you think the BA entry was a look into the future of the Grey Knight 'dex?

When it comes to jump units in GK you also need to consider the 'GK' artwork that saw the light of day a few months ago which also showed jump GK's and possibly GK chaplains. True, it's only a vague and unconfirmed piece of art (cover art maybe?) portraying GK's but all the same these things often end up being a good indicator of what's coming...if indeed it is coming...

I'm always curious as to why players wouldn't want GK jump-packers... I understant the whole fluff thing about teleportation. Yet, it seems to me that, once teleported, the GKs might want to move faster, hence the jump-packs. Also, game-wise, a unit that can move 12", assault 6" and deliver 10-16 St6 attackes is spelled W-I-N. I always get a feeling some GK players want to diffenciate their army so badly they outright reject the whole codex astartes. I, for one, think that only witht the wrist-mounted SB and the nemesis force weapons we already have a lot to diffenrentiate. I think GK chaplains would look cool, GKJP would be tactically nice, GK techmarines could also look nice (I love the model with full harness), bikers, well just scream Nemesis force lance!

Just food for thought

You mean the one with the huge titan in the background? The one representing the assault on Angron's forces on Armageddon?

That was done as a commission by a guy who doesn't (or didn't at the time) work for GW.

Well, there's "being different" and "outright rejecting everything that's in the Space Marine Codex". GKs are still astartes in power armour (even if the might get artificer armour). They have their individuality (storm bolters and Nemesis Force Weapons) and might not use some of the Space marines' tools. Yet, when some of those tools make so much sense (jump pack), it would be weird not to use them unless they get something better. For exemple, they could get teleport pack instead (treat as jet packs or some other better rule). I can understand why we wouldn't use Whirlwinds (we use mass stormbolters as range anti-hordes instead) or powerfists on our Justicars (NFW are better). But rejecting a useful tool of the Astartes just beacause we don't want to be silver marines makes no sense fluff-wise or gaming-wise...

This part highlights my reason for indifference. There are plenty of different manners for GKs to go about doing similar duties without being 'the same'. They aren't exactly by-the-book codex astrates adherrents, their HQ's already count as both Captains/Librarian hybrids (so no need for division into the SM-type rules there) and are arguably pure and resolute enough not to require chaplains.

But overall it's not a fluff or a game thing that is the problem. Can't we just shake things up a bit. It's not exactly the most imaginative approach just copying other SM codieces more-and-more. It's just the easy way to deal with it and IMO less rewarding.

I've always imagined that a Grey Knight Chaplain wouldn't focus exclusively to the ministering of his brothers so much as research and training for banishment of daemons of epic proportions. They along with Librarians in Codex chapters are the keepers of tradition and lore for a chapter, and what tradition and records of such are as important to the GK's as daemon hunting?

I would be more than okay with GK Chaplains as a niche HQ that's straight kitted out to fight Chaos and Daemons.

And I wouldn't mind Stormravens in a new GK or =][= codex. It'd be nice to have something other than LR's.

So, would/could we call them exorcists instead?

I don't know about the Chaplains not being required; that could just be another layer in how strong their faith is.

meh dont care if we have chaplains, my question is who's harvesting our gene seeds when we die? I'll take my Feel No Pain saves now thank you.

on subject, the storm raven seems fun and interesting so i welcome it, but at 200 points an armor 12 vehicle seems like a liability to me. I'm happy to keep fielding land raiders really...oh i know, we have all the best stuff right (in fluff i mean, not in rules because right now we have all the old stuff....) i want Venerable Land raiders, it's got a machine spirit, it could work!!!!!!!!!
