Grey Knight StormRaven Gunship

how is AV12 all round with ceramite armour a landraider? Is it the transport or its use?

Firepower, always firepower. :D

It can have more guns than a Land Raider Crusader (Hurricanes, TL Assault Cannon, TL Multi-melta, 4 H-Ks), it is an assault vehicle, and it has PotMS. Add that to the transport capacity, and you are basically trading the high AV of a Land Raider for speed and a couple more missiles.

I think that the StormRaven will be a valuable asset for the Grey Knights, and I think it will be used like a Vendetta (fast anti-tank, with the Typhoon Launchers and TL Lascannon).

I could see the Stormraven being included in the Spearhead release since it is a flying LR.

Well a trusty source on Warseer said that isn't going to happen. What I actually meant to post was that I don't think the SR will be first wave GK if they are before DE. If GK are January, then it might.

If Jump packs are in the new codex I for one won't use them. It just doesn't sit right with me. Teleporting backpacks might be ok for Dawn of War II but it there's no precedent for it anywhere it the Grey Knights background that I know of.

I'm very much hoping we get Chaplains though as otherwise I've wasted my time converting one.

not to be jabbin a you but to all those who say jump packs are not right for gk's, if they did get jump infantry I will bet my entire Army those same people would eventually use jump units if they proved their worth in games and I could see that totally happening if they keep the wargear similar to that of normal gk's ie: nfw!!!

I'm sure that's true, but I'm more of a fluff-centric collector than a gamer.

Throw my assaulting PAGK squad with 2 incinerators in the LRC, my 2 psycannon and my mix squads each in a Storm Raven, with each of my Dreads hooked up for drop, and then deepstrike my GM/Retinue.... Would completely change my deployment options
If we get a Stormraven kit I'm buying one just for the sheer armoured death and cheaper assault vehicle. I think that just making the GK a "fire" army would sit very well with me. 2 LRC, one stormraven, one dread (2 at larger games), my GM and retinue, some AA/PA GK and some IST rhino squads with new 2 fire point rhinos! Oh I would be in heaven.
GK techmarines could also look nice (I love the model with full harness), bikers, well just scream Nemesis force lance!

Just food for thought

Thats one thing GK's are never going to get..... techmarines have dual loyalties and worship a c'tan

I think ya'll are thinking too inside the box. Better than that can be done with the current codices.

With the frankly worrying shadow of a possible "C:SM - but with Shiny Bits!" codex, perhaps people can be forgiven for being a little conservative.

What wargear is specific to normal GKs? Storm Bolters aren't, and thanks to Relic Blades neither are Nemesis Force Weapons.

Grey Knight Teleport Attack...anyone remember that? A GKPA squad can deepstrike and be counted as a Fast Attack unit. Problem is then it has to footslog when it is clearly a fast unit. So how about this wackey idea. Stormraven that has no transport option...wait for it...because it can take 5 GKs as an upgrade? Just an idea, probably won't happen. But makes thing interesting.

I've always thought Teleporting PAGKs were horrible, from a game perspective. The lack of mobility after deployment, as you stated, couplde with the dangers of teleprting, AND the fact that drop pods are sooooo much safer/better, plainly marks out that squad as something of a fossil. I for one would be happy to see them go (or the DS rules would have to change considerably, which I don't expect).

It's stupid a strange, because teleoprting should, fluff-wise, be preferable to using a thruster-can that simply hurtles to a planet's surface, but I guess that's just GW trying to hawk its new shiny drop pod model. (The same as they did with the Trygon vs. Carnifex, btw).

Back on topic, he Stormraven is a great tactical option, as it can do a bit of everything (fast, transport troops AND dreds, firepower) quite well and for a reasonable price. I wouldn't mind trying a few out for my Space Wolves. That said, I tend to veer more towards dedicated vehicles, not jacks of all trades.

Back in 3rd Ed, teleporting was easier and far more survivable for the arriving unit than in 4th or 5th Ed. A unit was only lost if it scattered off the table or a scatter distance roll of double 1's occurred. Personally, I'd like to see a return of the ordinance marker as a virtual drop pod for GKT and FAGK units to land on when teleporting, seeing as GK's are the masters of the teleport attack.

All I have to say is, where is the dang model so I can get one?

To which I'd say: where is the dang codex so I can use the dang model?

Phil

Eh, I'd just use it out of my BA codex :woot:

but it would be nice to get a new codex at some point!
