Sanguinary Guard

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Just thought i'd share these guys with you all.

I'm working on a Sanguinary Guard army, just a small project of 20 models to make a 1500 point army  which i'm aiming to get it finished by the end of May. It is really just a bit of painting practice as i've no intention to actually keep the army for any length of time (it'll be for sale as soon as it's finished)

So anyway on to some pics of the first squad

Next up for the army will be The Sanguinor.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks guys

These are amazing, how did you paint the gold? Look forward to see the complete army :D

The gold was done this way

Basecoat- Tin bitz

1st layer- shining gold leaving tinbitz in the recess's

1st wash- gryphonne sepia

2nd wash- devlan mud

1st highlight- burnished gold

2nd highlight- 1/1 burnished gold/mithril silver

throughout the whole process the gold was kept well watered down to help achieve a smoother coat.

cheers

James

I have to agree that Sanguinor looks a bit flat, but I also wonder if this is down to the sculpt rather than your painting as the Sanguinary Guard have turned out really well. Likewise, the angle of the photo may be a contributing factor. Maybe some extra glazes are in order.

Spiky, I'm a fan of your Plog on Warseer, it's nice to see you pop over here every so often.

Hi James,

First off, your Sanguinary Guard look very top notch. Excellent job there.

Regarding the Sanguinor, I think the flatness comes from the highlighting of the chest area, which in your case, is a lot of the same color acording to the picture (it might not be like that in real life).

If you see the White Dwarf from april and the explanation of the Sanguinor in NMM, you will see that the upper chest is in fact very dark with edged highlights. Perhaps this technique of extreme edge highlighting would remove the flatness and give it the same look as the rest of the figure, which by the way, looks really good.

Let me know if you need me to elaborate on it.

Just my 2 cents.

Sincerely,

Painkiller
