My first Space Wolf army.

Recommended Posts

Like many people on here and every other wargame site, I buy stuff and then cba doing anything with it , or end up putting it on my "to do " list.

When the Space wolves came out I bought 2 boxes of terminators and a box of the tacticals.

Then I tried a couple of paint jobs and did Flesh tearers army instead(which I later scrapped to do Angels Sanguine, but thats a diferent story).

Anyway a few days ago on another site someone posted a list which just blew my mind whith the sheer audacity of the whole thing.

Basicly its 1750 points and 14 models all of them Terminators.

Shamelessly( or shamefully I cant decide which yet) I stole the idea and ran away. I counted the points looked at the options and didnt change a single thing tbh. Yet.

So here is what I have and a list of what I need.

I need 2 more wolf Guard and Logan which unless my Arithmetic is rubbish brings me to 1725 points . This leaves me enough for a couple of Wolves for variety .... ahem....

get them painted.

Yeah I guess I jumped the gun maybe.

I intend to update like a paint log and I know theres painting forums , but I like the specific replies in the Chapter forums.

I mean if youre showing off your Wolves where better to get criticism than the Wolves forum?

Bearing that in mind, I began to paint them today. There isnt a lot of them so Id like to take my time with these guys.

Now I think about it theres 3 diferent methods of base coating shown here. Im damned if I can see the diference from these pictures, but here goes.

This guy was sprayed black, then a light dusting with white. A base coat of Shadow Grey then a mix of shadow grey kommando khaki and space wolves grey was over brushed. The final stage Im at is a gryphonne sepia wash into the cracks.

This guy has been demoted. He was originally going to be a wolf lord but I think I`ll make a wolf priest to replace him, so now hes a WG

Same method as above minus the white dusting

This guy I missed out the shadow grey and went straight to the mix with shadow grey kommando khaki and space wolf grey , then the wash.

Hoping to have something more comment worthy pictures soon, but dont let that stop you if you see glaring mistakes or ideas. Im new to the wolves so any and all ideas are gratefully accepted.

i WOULD LIKE TO SEE WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE WITH GRYPHONE SEPIA AS iTS BEEN YEARS SINCE I BOUght GW inks, I still have the originl one they did, SOrry about the caps lock, I was not looking at my screen when typing

the new washes are nothing like inks but people have suggested that 'dips' are better

Small update and a question regarding the Claw colour on this.

Never done power weapons in red before, does this look like an ok start? It looks a little better in real life. Seems to need a ton more highlighting in this picture than it does really.

Beef.... I rofl at you.

Nice touch with the Gryphonne Sepia. I was going to use Devlan Mud (which seems to be the new catch-all wash for EVERYTHING), but I might have to switch..

Ive decided to make this army as part of Bjorn Stormwolfs company.

Id like some ideas for Bjorns wargear.

From the codex we know he wears Terminator armour so thats something to go on, and he likes loud noises. He also thinks stealth missions are "whelp work". Im figuring Storm bolter and a thunder hammer, but what else should he take?

Thanks guys.

No new painting but I did get their first game played. The first game I have played in several years.

I played against Tau in a 1600 ish point game. It was meant to be 1500 but we forgot about his gundrones so I added a whirlwind to keep it even.

All told I had 13 terminators and a whirlwind. He had an ungodly amount of firepower .

Both of us were new to this editions rules so it took a while checking books and I still managed to forget that stormshields work against ranged attacks now... doh!

In the end though I guess my luck was better. With Njal a wolf lord and 2 wolf Guard along with the Whirlwind surviving the match, and the tau had an Ethereal 6 kroot a braodside and a very damaged hammer head drifting around.

Things I learned.

You cant read enough before hand. I lost out on some amazing special rules I had.

Strom Sheilds are awesome when you actually use them properly.

Njal is going to be in every list I make. OMG the character is 7 shades of awesome.

At the beginning of the game I honestly thought I didnt stand a chance. The terminators shrugged off huge amounts of fire power. Njal scared 2 full units off the table and laid waste to a few others, he destroyed both weapons on the hammerhead too. Undoubtedly the man of the match.

I had thought about taming this list down adding more models but , its just so much fun as it is.
