Thranquil
Evening all, Starting a Deathwatch squad (over in W.I.P forum - unsure how to link!) and wanted to add some Xenos expert chapters to the unit. What I'm asking is are there any chapters who have a particular speciality? E.g Crimson Fists = Orks Ultramarines = Tyranids [insert name here] = Tau [whatstheirnames] = Eldar etc Thranquil Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/200920-quick-deathwatch-question/ Share on other sites
Brother_Kaelgrim
Black Templars are good all around xenos hunters, having a righteous zeal for smiting the xenos. However, they could probably be classified as ork haters above all due to the events of Armageddon and the fact that Dorn successors as a whole hate ork kind deeply. Thranquil
Thanks! Will add them to the short list! Will also depend on chapters I can freehand! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/200920-quick-deathwatch-question/#findComment-2393773 Share on other sites
Drac0
If you're looking for a chapter for each xenos, then I'd probably place BT with Tau, as you already have CF with orks. but as Brother_k, quite rightly said, BT are all around xeno fighters. a couple of suggestions: Dark Angels - Chaos (hunt the fallen) Imperial Fists - daemons / chaos guard (got the idea after reading sons of Dorn) Other than this, you can pretty much put every chapter with every xeno. Specially orks. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/200920-quick-deathwatch-question/#findComment-2394293 Share on other sites
Lady_Mournival
Mantis Warriors and Iron Snakes for Eldar/Dark Eldar. I agree that black templars could be used against tau; there was that whole crusade thing against them for awhile. Chengar Qordath
a couple of suggestions: Dark Angels - Chaos (hunt the fallen) Imperial Fists - daemons / chaos guard (got the idea after reading sons of Dorn) Chaos and Daemons aren't xenos, and are outside the Deathwatch's field of interest. I don't think there are many chapters that really specialize in fighting one specific type of alien. Personally, I would lean more towards assigning chapters within a Deathwatch force based on the model's role/equipment: techmarines should be Iron Hands, assault specialists can be Space Wolves or Blood Angels, flamer and melta equipped troops are Salamanders, plasma goes to Dark Angles, etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/200920-quick-deathwatch-question/#findComment-2394321 Share on other sites
Brother Pugnax
I don't think there are many chapters that really specialize in fighting one specific type of alien. Personally, I would lean more towards assigning chapters within a Deathwatch force based on the model's role/equipment: techmarines should be Iron Hands, assault specialists can be Space Wolves or Blood Angels, flamer and melta equipped troops are Salamanders, plasma goes to Dark Angles, etc. These ideas don't seem to be mutually exclusive. Various chapters may have greater experience dealing with a particular xenos race, and they likely have a favorite gun/weapon to purge them with, too. Team selection, in my opinion, would benefit from both a tactical (i.e. load-out) perspective, as well as a strategic one. On the OP: The Invaders have a good reason for hating/fighting the Eldar (sacking a craftworld and having their chapter planet annihilated by the Eldar in reprisal, C:SM 49) The White Scars have some deep seated issues with the Dark Eldar, with the whole 'DE being involved in the disappearance of the Great Khan' business. Thranquil
Thanks for the input guys. Given me plenty of things to think about. Tempted by the Mantis Warriors or Invaders as I don't see many of those about... White Scars and Iron Snakes are already in the squad, as is a Space Wolf (probably could have mentioned that earlier!). These are all modelled to represent their chapter character. Will post them up here when finished alongside their Ordo Xenos Inquisitor master. bystrom
The Sable Swords, while young (upstarts), they've won "series of decisive victories over the upstart Tau Empire". They're similar in look to the BT, but with a different chapter symbol. The Mentors seem to very often fight the eldar (Biel Tann, C:SM pg. 29, 41). blackoption
Ultra's also have a good experience against the Ork emprie of Charadon and the upstart Tau's as well. Death Spectre's focus on some alien out beyond the ghoul stars. Excorsists are the grey knights "little brother" so to speak. Invaders invaded a craftworld. (no small feat there) White scars have animosty towards dark eldar: (that whole mes with their primarch) Iron lords are involved against the Nids, as are the Knights of the Raven. Lamenters, Mantis Warriors, and Scythes of the Emperors have tangled with the nids extensively while on low resources as well.
