Darwinsfolly
In what seems to be my never ending quest to find a 40k army to call home, I created a progression of army lists from 500pts to 1500pts on how I would build my SW army (and more importantly, guide my initial purchases with the scant money I do have). The army begins to start taking shape around 1000pts with 2 full, mounted, GH squads with WG sergeants; a full skyclaw pack lead by a wolf priest and a long fang pack giving fire support. 1500pts sees the addition of 2 Land speeder typhoons and a mounted GH squad with Rune Priest. As you can see, I favor more of a highly mobile, fast striking strategy with most of my points going into troops and fast attack. So, which of the Great Companies do you think best fit my army style? Honestly brother, from the description you seem one of the few I have met to favor Engir Krakendoom's style of warfare. I think if you read his entry it would strike a chord. Sarapham
Agreed, I am of Krakendoom's company and you would fit right at home using that combat ethos. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/200937-which-great-company-am-i/#findComment-2393904 Share on other sites
Darwinsfolly
Thanks all, I kind of felt that is where I was headed with my army ideas. However, one thing I didn't mention was the sort of character I was imagining for my army. The SW codex really hits home for me with the focus on personal sagas and glory. I imagined each IC and WG model in my army would be unique in some way and I even went so far a equipping the WG sergeants differently to make them seem like budding heroes with unique-ish equipment. So, I'm thinking of maybe joining the company of the Great Wolf, or I'll stick with Engir Krakendoom. Separately, how do some of you picture ol' Engir? I'm thinking he'd go into battle with either a jump pack or a bike. The TWM, while fast and speedy, doesn't seem to quite fit. I could see him in a land raider but the mobile mentality doesn't jive with terminator armor, maybe he's a runic armor kind of guy. Also, do you think he's more of a FW/WC guy or a PF/TH guy? Personally I see him as riding a Hawg style attack bike,Probably with a heavy bolter(even if ruleswise he couldn't fire it),carrying a Thunder hammer and storm shield.Maybe even twin Thunder hammers, because lets face it...if anyone were going to be saying "One power fist on a stick isn't enough,I need to have another" It would be him.If your conversion skills are up to it,I would put him in Terminator armor and then spend some time reinforcing his Bike.Count is as Runic armor for rules wise, but for appearance it would be awesome. I would check out the thread about converting the attack bikes to look like old school Harleys somewhere on this site. Now that I think about it,I'm tempted to do something similar to that myself. If you do,make sure to take good pictures and either post them or send them to me. I would agree that he would either be on bike or perhaps joining a squad in rhino or "lesser" transports since riding a pimped landraider is the Iron wolf´s thing. His description in the codex seem to indicate some things as I see it: - Bike or light transport as stated and therefore probably runic armor. - Saga of the Beastslayer (He hunted monsters, I mean he is the Krakendoom) or Saga of Majesty (He was a warlord when he was "mortal" so he would be a good leader of men from the start) - When hunting monsters as a mortal his tribe prefered to hunt with large Axes or Harpoons/Spears which I would model as frost weapons. (Probably not dual frost weapons.) - He has slightly darker skin. Barn
Has anyone made any special rules for each of the great company leaders? Ive been playing around with some rules for Bran Redmaw, but it would be a great idea for some rules etc for all Wolf Lords. Darwinsfolly
I've been thinking about special rules for Engir Krakendoom. To promote the faster style army that he is known for, I took some precedence from C:SM... SPECIAL RULES (Normal Wolf Lord Stuff) SAILORS OF THE SEA: Engir Krakendoom is known to favor a fighting strategy as swift and fluid as the sea itself. When Engir is equipped with a Bike, all Swiftclaw Packs are now counted as Troops choices and Wolf Guard may purchase bikes at a 10pt discount. When Engir is equipped with a Jump Pack, all Skyclaw Packs are now counted as Troops and Wolf Guard may purchase jump packs at a 10pt discount. If neither of these options are taken, Rhinos and Razorbacks may each be purchased at a 5pt discount. WARGEAR SEASLAYER: Engir has used this long-axe to slay many great creatures from both the seas of Fenris and the Sea of Stars. Seaslayer is a Frost Axe that grants +2 to the user's strength rather than +1. I decided to add the point deductions to the Wolf Guard mostly because the current point prices favor WG in either PA or TDA fighting on foot (as Russ intended) or moving in transports. With the point deductions, they now become comparable in price to similarly equipped Vanguard Veteran squads and Command Squads, which they are meant to emulate. Vampyrer0me0
I use Krakendoom's Great Company as the basis for my army also. I have always been a huge fan of the mechanized force with bikes as the flankers. I havent built up to the point where I am using a Wolf Lord yet so I havent decided on how to field Krakendoom himself, but Id likely use a Land Raider with him in runic armour. The idea in how I build my list is that each packs transport is like their longship. It only makes sense to me that the Lord would have the nicest one. As to him being on bike hed probably want to lead the main force not be an outrider. Just my two cents. I am thinking of arming him with wolf claws, in my army all the wolf claws are modeled as long axes(using dwarfen axe heads).
