New Wolf and his army

Hey guys,

this is your generic introduction post. :P

I just recently returned to the hobby after a pretty long absence (last time I did anything Warhammer related was about mid 3rd edition...)

I guess you could blame the awesome new SW miniatures for that.

I was actually always much more of a painter than a gamer, however, the wolves made me want to finally have my first REAL playable 40k army (I used to own dozens of snippets from various armies back in 3rd ed, but never really surpassed the 500 point mark) and finally get the gaming aspect of the hobby going.

So, here I am, hoping for a good time with you guys, and also showing you some pictures of the SW stuff I recently did.

Terminator wolfguard, both with stormshileds:

The Runepriest, only HQ thus far:

And a bunch of Grey Hunters, I didn't get around to take pictures of the whole squad yet:

Those are all designated for use on the table, so you might see a little light reflecting on the varnish here and there..

More to come in the next posts.

If you have any questions concerning me, the painting, whatever, feel free to ask

cheers,

Shieldwall

Thanks for the welcome and the compliments guys, appreciate it a lot.

...oh and feel free to share some painting tips....

Any day, just drop a note.

Here's my first Rhino. I had a lot of fun with this one, especially with the freehanding of Ragnar's company mark.

Thanks man, glad to hear that. My camera slaughtered the blendings at some points, so it's good to see they're still noticeable.

Last for now, I'd like to share some pics of my Forgeworld Dread. Damn fine sculpt, even if it was a pain in the back assembling it.

That's all for now, hope you like

greets

Heh, thanks.

The wolf heads were basecoated with scorched brown, followed by a layer of bestial brown.

From there on, I started stepwise mixing the bestial brown with parts of bleached bone, starting out really gentle with a 90:10 ratio, and blending it in heavy watered down glazes. I'm not sure how many steps it took till I applied pure bleached bone, propably around eight to ten.

The last highlighting glazes were mixes of bleached bone and skull white, with a final highlight of pure skull white. The colour transitions don't show too well on the photo though.

if this is you paint after years away from the hobby I dead to think what its like when you had plenty of practice

It wasn't until a year ago that I really got a hang of the more "professional" painting techniques. I guess I had plenty of guys to look up to and learn from.
