Spazmonkey
I dont really know alot about Terminator tactics.. I am hoping for some opinions or advice... If you dont take Termies in a Land Raider the only other options we have are , Footslogging or Drop Pods. Footslogging: now with Space wolves being awesome as they are we are able to take 10WG in TDA for only 330 points plus x points for 2 special weapons say x2 assault cannons = 390 Is foot slogging x10 termies across the board effective. x16 storm bolter shots and the the shots from the assault cannon is alot of shots if they have targets... if they get into close combat they have what 20-30 power weapon attacks depending on if they have charge or counter assault. Now my list runs a rune priest who could then be added into the unit go give a 5+ cover save.... But even though it looks good on paper does it actually work? Is there a better unit for the points? What would this kind of unit be best used for? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/201205-foot-sloggingtermies/ Share on other sites
commander alexander
Don't have them as your only "trick", or invest all your points in them as they will be fire magnets. Foot slogging terminators can have different results depending on your opponent. Spazmonkey
For sure. they would not be one of my hammer units at all.... But im more intrested in tatics and if you think they are vaule for money when used like this? I think initally they would be fighting manly blood angels.... and Eldar.... commander alexander
I would think that you could spend your money and points better elsewere, that is unless your trying to do a low point level (like 1000) wolf-wing sort of thing  ? I think spending points on some more shooting might help you against blood angels, I don't ever play against eldar so I cant really help you there. Scouts are a good elite choice, snipers can pin the non-fearless units. Landspeeders would be a great choice to go and pop those ridiculous tanks the blood angels have now ASAP. Requiem of the Wolf
I don't favor the idea of Foot Slogging them unless absolutely neccessary. Personally I would split the squad up into 5 Terminators, and then make the other 5 lead your other squads. You could put the two special weapons in that one unit, use a drop pod. so 3 storm bolters,2 assault cannons dropped into the middle of his squishy bits. Hotspur
I think, for termies anyway, that drop pods are the way to go. You can get them into the thick of, or very near to an enemy where they're most effective, especially if you're only going to do a generic squad. I say do the generic squad with a couple special weapons like you've proposed and drop pod them about 24" away from whatever you're wanting to kill; that way, you'll have a couple rounds of shooting from your assault cannons and storm bolters before you get to them. That being said, Blood Angels are tough and fast, so you may want to consider other options b/c termies are slow. Plasma weapons are a good way to start. Xeenos
Correct me if im wrong, Spaz, but you point out the Rune Priest and his ablity to give the 5+ cover save from Storm, how would that help terminators whom already have a 5+ invul? I would think Hurricane to make your oppenents move as though in difficult and dangerious terrian, which also means they assault as though in difficult terrain meaning if they dont have assault nades, they strike last. Was reading a post on the Blood Angels fourm about a fellow that was fighting a SW army that was basicly as follows; Logan Grimnar Rune Priest 10 Terminators 2 Missles 2 Can Openers 10 Terminators 2 Missles 2 Can Openers 10 Terminators 2 Missles 2 Can Openers 5 Terminators assault cannon can opener Drop Pod 4 Thunder Wolves 1 SS, 1 Melta Bomb 1 Thunderhammer 4 Thunder Wolves 1 SS, 1 Melta Bomb 1 Thunderhammer The fight man squad might have had a different special weapon, but basicly its all right. Anyway my thoughts for a list like this would be to basicly have your Terminators moving up the mid, obivously. Using hte missles the take out soft targets like Dreds. You could drop the 5 man squad onto an objective, rather then being a 'suicide' squad or a speed bump, they could likly hold it fairly well, using the Thunder Wolves to move up and support them. Over all the Thunder Wolves imo would be used to support the main force of terms in CC, moving in to end fights fast or add the extra weight where needed. Its also an interesting army for scoot and shoot, staying out of range of melee units by backing away slowly and shooting them, any that do actually make it to the fight, would do so with likly reduced numbers, then they would get pounded with counter attack, followed by Thunder Wolves if the fight needed the extra. Sounded like a really fun list to me. Im usually very Mech, everything in a rhino or long range and wont move after i place it, but the possablities with this list looked fun to me. Raider
Walking Terminators are an interesting choice. Overall they would mostly shine in close combat as neither Stormbolters nor two special weapons are particularly effective in a 300+ point unit. To get to the enemy fast I would design the unit for running and give them two Heavy Flamers (=2x5 points!) plus about two chainfists. 10 Terminators, 2 Hvy Flamers, 2 Chainfists = 370 points This one is pretty similar in use but cheaper: 10 Grey Hunters, 2 Meltaguns, MotW, Banner + Terminator Hvy Flamer, Chainfist = 218 points Both units should do well as a second assault wave (gaining 4+ saves). Very nice idea with the grey hunter unit there... I think ill try that...
