Your favourite bit of fluff?

I'm curious as to what piece(s) of fluff really grab you from all the wonderful literature we have.

Currently (I'm still reading the second ed dex) for me it would have to be the passage on page 76 of the second ed codex, about the funeral pyres of Haakon and others lost in combat, the last few lines are pretty awesome.

Also 2nd. Ed. Dex, also Bjorn, but the text with him standing on top of the Fang, thinking and the priest coming to get him.

That's the bit I love best. But there are lots of aweinspiring texts to be true.

Second that. I absolutely love that story. It really gives a feel to both Wolves and Bjorn in particular.

Second favorite is , as was said upthread, the funeral pyres on page 76 of the 2nd ed dex.

To me,It's hard to find a favorite bit of fluff,as we have so many amazing sagas and tales about us. Though I suppose if I had to choose,It would be this, the reputed last words of our Primarch Leman Russ.

"Listen but closely my Brothers, for my life's breath is all but spent. There shall come a time far from now when our Chapter itself is dying, even as I am now dying, and our foes shall gather to destroy us. Then, my children, I shall listen for your call from whatever realm of death holds me, and come I shall no matter what the laws of life and death forbid. At the End I will be there. For the final Battle. For the Wolftime."

I can't think of a single piece of Literature that exemplifies the spirit of the Space Wolves better then this.

Though one that does come close is something originally meant for Orks, but the idea behind it meshes well with the Space Wolves as well. Basically it was the statement that Orks never actually lose a fight. If they die, they died fighting so it doesn't count. If they retreated,it means they lived to fight again so that doesn't count either.

I can see Space Wolves viewing it in much the same way.

Ranulf.

Please, allow me:

"Ranulf is said to be the largest warrior of all of the Space Wolves, larger in girth and mightier of arm than even Leman Russ. His Terminator armour now stands in the Hall of Heroes, towering over all who look upon it. Ranulf performed many feats of strength. Once, when his squad was trapped by a river of lava, Ranulf pushed the wreckage of a Land Raider into the molten stream so that his pack could cross."

"The story of Ranulf's death is told at great length in his saga. The Space Wolves were retreating over a narrow mountain pass following a rare defeat at the hands of the Orks. When the Orks caught up with the end of the Space Wolves' column, Ranulf and a handful of Wolf Guard made a gallant stand against the entire Ork army in a narrow gap in the pass. While the few warriors held back thousands of Orks, the remaining Space Wolves made it back to safety.... Before many hours were past there was a pile of Ork bodies as high as a wall. But even the giant Space Wolves warrior could not hold out forever. One by one his Wolf Guard fell, unitl only Ranulf was left. Though the Orks overcame him in the end, even those creatures could not bring themselves to desecrate his body. When the Space Wolves recovered the pass they found Ranulf and his dead companions seated in a hastily constructed shrine surrounded by an immense pile of Ork wargear. To the Space Wolves Ranulf was a great Champion - but to his enemies he had become nothing less than a god."

Mmm i like that Ranulf story, is that from 2nd?

Edit: Though it kind makes me laugh.. if they liked Ranulf they would have LOVED my Wolfen Lord from the 13th company dex.. Oh how i miss 9 s5 power weapon attacks.

Yea, he was from the 2nd Ed codex.

The fact that the Wolves don't equip helmets if they can avoid it due to they're natural snese being lowered, I kinow that this is more of a Space Wolf-novels fluff thing than codex-fluff, but hey, like 80% of the wolf models in the codex showcase got no helmet on their heads.

I like that, if feels feral bold an cool, thus my models' got their helemts fastened to their belts :)

That is pretty awesome and it's a part of the literature.

Which is why though my models for my Heresy force have helmets on (they've just orbital dropped) I want to model up each pack as helmetless for later turns in the game/when not playing Planetstrike when I finally have the funds and am more confident in painting flesh.
